“Captivating [and] flawless…An affectingly hard-won romance. [Michael is] a sturdy and slyly amusing authority figure, … flailing amid the debris of a loving marriage gone sour. Marnie is a compulsively witty, winningly cranky near-agoraphobe…Both protagonists are prickly, smart and desperately yearning, but utterly guarded for understandably good reasons. Nicholls builds his own erotic and at times wrenchingly emotional suspense as the would-be lovers reveal past mishaps and surrendered dreams… As in the best romances, we cherish Michael’s and Marnie’s difficult personalities, and relish the unlikely process that might bring them together. The novel is sharp-tongued and irresistible.” — New York Times Book Review
“I finished this novel in two breathless sittings, as invested in its outcome as I would be in the happiness of a friend. This is the magic of You Are Here: warm, generous and funny, it invites readers into the world of Marnie and Michael with the promise that everyone is welcome, and that choosing happiness and being courageous in any small way we can is always possible. I loved this book.” — Kaliane Bradley, author of The Ministry of Time
From the internationally bestselling and Booker Prize-longlisted author of One Day, one of the most enduring love stories of its generation, comes an uplifting and unputdownable love story about second chances.
Sometimes you need to get lost to find your way . . .
Michael is coming undone. Adrift after his wife’s departure, he has begun taking himself on long, solitary walks across the English countryside. Becoming ever more reclusive, he’ll do anything to avoid his empty house.
Marnie, on the other hand, is stuck. Hiding alone in her London flat, she avoids old friends and any reminders of her rotten, selfish ex-husband. Curled up with a good book, she’s battling the long afternoons of a life that feels like it’s passing her by.
When a persistent mutual friend and some very unpredictable weather conspire to toss Michael and Marnie together on the most epic of ten-day hikes, neither of them can think of anything worse. Until, of course, they discover exactly what they’ve been looking for.
Michael and Marnie are on the precipice of a bright future . . . if they can survive the journey.
A hilarious, hopeful, and heartwarming love story—the novel belovedNew York Times bestselling author David Nicholls calls “my funniest book yet”—You Are Here is a bittersweet and hopeful story of first encounters, second chances, and finding the way home.

Really enjoyed this book. Great sense of humor and great character development. Highly recommend to anyone looking to go on a hike without leaving their reading chair.
Basha Raizel –
Michael and Marnie aren’t flawless. but the novel is! I adored their story—so perfectly and kindly told, warm and funny and touching, without a single ounce of fat in the writing. A gem.

cant believe so many good reviews from so-called experts … bland, empty, not believable characters … and compare it with One Day is just blasphemy. I am afraid that after having read all his books, david nicholls is well past his prime

The characters were very real and compelling, and I find myself wanting more.

This book was hard to get into. Kind of off to a rocky start, unable to capture attention early on. I really wanted to enjoy this book based on other reviews, but ultimately had to remain objective.

A wonderful story with heart and meaning. A page turner that left you wanting more. Main characters are well observed and developed. This book made me smile many times, it’s sharp and witty in places. Lovely summer read.

Anyone looking for a summer beach read, check this one out. Story about two young-ish divorcees who meet on a walk, and inadvertently fall for each other. Not the deepest of books, but certainly entertaining and quite funny in many places!

Michael Bradshaw, forty-two year-old, geography teacher, still lives in the same house he used to share with his wife. He enjoys going on solo hikes when he isn’t working and is planning on taking a long coast to coast hike. Cleo Fraser, friend and fellow teacher, convinces him to make it a group hike and invites seven people including Anthony, Cleo’s son and Marnie’s godson, her husband, and herself.
The four additional people Cleo invites are Marnie Walsh, thirty-eight year-old divorcee, free lance copy-writer and proofreader who works from home and has no social life. Conrad, a handsome outgoing pharmacist, for whom Cleo was hoping would pair up with Marnie. Tess, an attractive athletic dentist, for whom Cleo was hoping would link up with Michael. Unfortunately, both Tess and Cleo’s husband cancel at the last minute.
The weather was pouring rain on the second day of the hike therefore, Conrad, Cleo, and Anthony all bail and get a taxi to the next hotel. Sadly, once Marnie and Michael arrive at the hotel Marnie sees Conrad checking out because he has no desire to complete the hike.
Since it is still raining the following day both Cleo and Anthony decide to drop out of the hike and head home. Thus, both Marnie and Michael resolve to complete the hike.
I enjoyed the dry humor and the banter between Marnie and Michael throughout the book. For example, when both Marnie and Michael critique each other’s Playlist. Also, both of them came up with witty theme names for the rooms at one hotel: “Plagues of Egypt”, “Horsemen of the Apocalypse”, “Fungal infections”.
