I received the book this morning. As a long time west wing fan I had been looking forward to this book. While I have not finished it yet, I can say it has already exceeded my expectations. I have rewatched the west wing countless times over the years and I feel this book will join the short list of books I will reread in years to come. What really raises this book to a higher level is the great humor and incredibly enjoyable (co-author) writing style. I also love the message of the book about public service. I offer my tremendous gratitude to the authors.

I recently began re-watching The West Wing, and was so excited about the release of this book! I got it as a gift for myself, and my dad! It’s so well-written and brought back so many of my favorite memories of the series, with behind-the-scenes info that was so exciting to read. It was such a special show, and this book makes you feel like you were on set with them. Such a wonderful book and a great gift!!

What’s Next is an absolute delight for any West Wing fan. I preordered months ago and completely forgot about it, so imagine my surprise when it arrived! Melissa and Mary have crafted a captivating behind-the-scenes look at this iconic show. The book brings back so many memories. It’s like reconnecting with old friends.

Since it’s first announcement on AMAZON, many have been waiting more or less patiently for this book. SPOILER ALERT! It was worth the wait! Like a couple of other reviewers here, I am only in the beginning of reading this book, but, while many books of this size can take 60 to 90 pages to get the motors running, Melissa Fitzgerald and Mary McCormadk have the wheels rolling within the first few page with a wonderful writing style that is altogether breezy, engaging, and informative all at once. If you are a chronic fan of THE WEST WING as I am (I’m on the 6th viewing of the first 4 Aaron Sorkin episodes) and are hesitant about buying the book, hesitate no longer: Buy It! The book engages from the Preface and Introduction forward. The writers thoroughly engage the reader with their natural, conversational style. They drape their arms over the reader’s shoulders and guide her or him immediately behind the scenes as Martin Sheen, on the first day of shooting, goes around to introduce himself and exchange a few words with every extra and walk-on in that week’s episode. In addition, tradition on other shows usually dictated that extras and walk-ons would eat different food at a different time in a different location that the rest of the cast. Sheen demanded that ALL participants would eat together with no segregation. Spoiler over! Enjoy the book!

I believe Aaron Sorkin and the writing team of West Wing should create a National Civils Class curriculum, the cast and crew should create a presentation to teach our people how a Constitutional Republic is supposed to function. Oh! Wait! Y’all did! Now we just have to make sure everyone takes the class!
West Wing wasn’t just a show. This book is proof of that. The legacy of the Bartlet Administration continues through the service of the people who served in the cast and crew…the Family you all became. Thank you for sharing the love and for showing us how it’s done. I love you all. 💖

In its 560 pages you will discover the ethic & its ethos, it’s raison d’étre; to take a look back at a once-in-a-lifetime show and all it took to make it, maintain it, & say goodbye to it knowing greatness was indeed achieved.
This incredible tome is a must read for any fan of the show. To turn its pages, to see the candid photos, the scripts, to recall the storylines is not only nostalgic but inspiring.
