Detailed description:
If you drop just one soda can out the window, it’s no big deal…right? But what if everybody did that? What if everybody broke the rules…and spoke during story time, didn’t wash up, or splashed too much at the pool? Then the world would be a mess. But what if everybody obeyed the rules so that the world would become a better place? Using humorous illustrations rendered in mixed media, these questions are answered in a child-friendly way and show the consequences of thoughtless behavior.

It’s important for young people to learn and care about their place and responsibilities in civilized society. This book plants an important seed of thought in young minds presented in a way anyone can understand.

A Lovely little book about manners. I love the illustrations, very concise. It’s not easy to hundred percent good, but we should remind ourselves always what if the entire world was GOOD?

This book is great for sparking a conversation on why we shouldn’t do certain things. It really touches on how though we may think our small actions mean nothing, if everyone did it the world would be a bad place. The only real critique I’d have for this book is that there is only one positive “what if everyone did that”. Although it can be used as a writing prompt for students, it feels a bit lacking on its own.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I really enjoyed this book. It offers great topics for discussion with young readers. When kids are young, they often focus on their own wants without stopping to consider how their wants impact others. This is a great social emotional learning tool.

The illustrations are brilliant, loved it! I don’t like the whole story repeating “ what if everyone did that?” This is so annoying and it’s a four star because of it

“What If Everybody Did That?” by Ellen Javernick and illustrated by Colleen Madden is a fabulous book and an essential teaching tool for any parent or educator. This delightful book not only captivates young readers with its silliness and good humor but also serves as a conscientious guide, highlighting the importance of considerate and decent behavior.
The lessons in this book are ingeniously presented, showcasing the consequences of thoughtless actions in a child-friendly way. It encourages children to think about others and consider scenarios they might not otherwise ponder. What makes this book particularly effective is the focus on individual accountability, emphasizing that personal actions matter, regardless of what everyone else is doing.
In a world where personal accountability sometimes takes a backseat, “What If Everybody Did That?” stands out as a valuable teaching tool. It addresses manners, environmental consciousness, recycling, respect for rules and laws, and the understanding that our actions have consequences. The book cleverly illustrates that if everyone were to engage in thoughtless behavior like littering, the consequences would be undesirable for all.
The overall message of the book is not only wonderful but also timely. It is a must-read for pre-K through school-aged children, instilling important values in a way that is engaging and memorable. “What If Everybody Did That?” is a standout contribution to children’s literature, promoting thoughtful consideration and positive behavior. Highly recommended for its educational value and entertaining approach to important life lessons.
