Detailed description:
A no-nonsense and helpful guide on how to cope with a slew of mental-health issues that are hellbent on ruining the lives of millions of people worldwide.
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes―having melt downs, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it’s not good to do these things, but it can’t help it sometimes―especially if it’s obsessing about trauma it can’t overcome. That’s where this life-changing book comes in.
With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what’s going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately to the non-emergencies of everyday life, and to deal effectively with old, or newly acquired, traumas (particularly post-traumatic stress disorder).

I was very disappointed myself as i was really excited to read this book cos it had such good comments and it seemed more focused on young people. As english is not my mother language nor i was born in the states, the expressions and slangs are hard to understand therefore the book is hard to read. Didnt really get anything from it. Plus, its really bad publishing. The spaces between words and space like. I feel scammed. Such a waste of money. Its even more expensive than other greater books similar to this one. And yeah, too much unnecessary swearing.

I bought this book for my daughter and my husband. Both suffer from anxiety and neither like reading books that much. It is written in a way that is easy to read, very relatable, and so helpful. It is funny but not in a way that makes fun of the issue but eases the tension and made them feel like “this is normal”. It was so impactful for my husband that he shared it with his psychologist. Highly recommend!

This never made it as a It was a Christmas gift but sadly, it sat in my city “out for delivery” for 2 days. It was odd when he gave me a sweet gift but mine was delayed so I had nothing for him on Cmas. When it finally came at 8:00pm 12/26, I flipped thru and read it a little bit. It got my interest; esp as an advocate in Domestic Violence, counselor, and cert’d to work w/elderlies with cognitive decline. Tho I hear it, reading the language as much she wrote it was unnecessary and a bit distracting but it’s not for me, it’s for my former husband & former combat vet w/anger/abuse issues. He should enjoy reading it. It’s needed for any who’s experienced abuse (any kind, esp starting in childhood), or toxic relationships or major drama in their life. I’ll read it when he’s done. Raised by an atheist narcissist and overbearing mother I’m sure it’ll do me some good as well. We could all use a little self-help, yet I use the Scriptures more than anything else.

This book is written so well with a great sense of humor. It makes it so easy to read and understand! It has little activities you can do while reading that help with identifying your specific situation/needs. I would recommend everyone reads this to understand the roles of the brain

I’m Torn. Pros: This book covers a very necessary, serious, and stigmatized area of mental health: trauma. It does a good job describing accurately & scientifically what happens to the brain on trauma, the effects and how to deal. More should be explored & written about this subject. Cons: I have issues with the way it’s written. First, the Title Doesn’t Really Tell You It’s About Trauma. So people looking for that won’t find it and people who think this book is about something else will be out a few bucks. It’s written with the view that absolutely Everyone has gone through some kind of trauma & could benefit from this book. I won’t argue that, I can’t know. The Language is not necessary. There isn’t a sentence not peppered with f-bombs and every other curse word. I have NO problem with cursing but this is overkill! It’s obvious the book is geared towards young people but if trauma effects all ages why write it like that? It’s comically full of urban lingo which almost discredits the intelligent and noble writer. Because it’s got a lot of valuable info., I read it, but it’s hard. I think even a teenager would roll their eyes at the writer trying to relate to them and sound cool. By the time a lot of people get around to doing some self help reading they’re pushing 30 & up. It would be great if it were scrapped & re-written for everyone. It also says, “I dont think young people are very smart & won’t be interested in reading something unless it sounds ‘woke.” That’s not what I’d want to hear if I were the target audience. In fact there’s nothing worse than an adult trying to talk like your generation when they’re not. The other thing it says is, if you’re older than the target audience, this book won’t be useful to you, which is also untrue. So, kudos to the writer for delving into a serious much needed topic but please get an Editor.

Love this book for its simple explanations of why the brain works the way it does. As someone with anxiety disorder it was very helpful to understanding to underlying causes.

This book is both insightful and hilarious! As a child of trauma I always love books like this. I like the insight on how the human brain actually works. The cussing and jokes make it a super easy read. My new favorite word is di**itude!

This book is so well written that I bought two more of her books. I love the way she conveys her message. The “smart-a**” in me truly appreciates the tone! Not to mention, the advice/meat of the book are spot on, and I have incorporated many of her ideas/suggestions into my daily life. My wife thanks you!
