THE INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!
A glorious and tantalizing new escape from #1 New York Times bestselling author Carley Fortune.
This summer they’ll keep their promise. This summer they won’t give into temptation. This summer will be different.
Lucy is the tourist vacationing at a beach house on Prince Edward Island. Felix is the local who shows her a very good time. The only problem: Lucy doesn’t know he’s her best friend’s younger brother. Lucy and Felix’s chemistry is unreal, but the list of reasons why they need to stay away from each other is long, and they vow to never repeat that electric night again.
It’s easier said than done.
Each year, Lucy escapes to PEI for a big breath of coastal air, fresh oysters and crisp vinho verde with her best friend, Bridget. Every visit begins with a long walk on the beach, beneath soaring red cliffs and a golden sun. And every visit, Lucy promises herself she won’t wind up in Felix’s bed. Again.
If Lucy can’t help being drawn to Felix, at least she’s always kept her heart out of it.
When Bridget suddenly flees Toronto a week before her wedding, Lucy drops everything to follow her to the island. Her mission is to help Bridget through her crisis and resist the one man she’s never been able to. But Felix’s sparkling eyes and flirty quips have been replaced with something new, and Lucy’s beginning to wonder just how safe her heart truly is.

Anything Carley Fortune writes, I will read. She is brilliant. I fell in love with her first book, Every Summer After, which I truly believe had magic sprinkled into it, and now I love this book, too. It had that spark. I don’t know how she does it, but she makes you feel as if you’re there, breathing in the salty air and feeling the breeze on your cheeks. She is a wonderful writer, and I can’t wait to read her next book – back to Barry’s Bay with Charlie!!

Lucy and Felix meet randomly one night when her best friends flight is delayed a day and she’s in Bridget’s home town by herself. Felix is schilling oysters at the restaurant he works at and when she walks in and they lock eyes sparks fly. They end up leaving together and having a mind blowing one night stand only to wake up the next morning and realize that Felix is her best friends brother. They make a pact not to tell Bridget and never do it again but each time Lucy comes back to the island they’re drawn together. The story goes back and forth between 5 years again when they met to now and how each summer when they can’t resist each other builds and builds into love. The only flaw in those story was it’s not spicy enough for me. But there is really good tension and I’m a sucker for a best friends brother/sneaking around trope. I love how supportive Felix is and how thoughtful he is. Like bringing them groceries before they even ask and making sure he has a snack bar in his truck because he knows she gets car sick. He’s literally the sweetest man and starts sketching her her flower farm before she even brings it up 🥹 Such a good end of summer read!

This book is fantastic for escaping reality and sending you to Prince Edward Island. The descriptions and details floored me. I could see the rich red earth, the emerald green of the fields, the salty air drenching your soul. I devoured each detail as quickly as possible. The characters fit in perfectly. Lucy the soul who needs to discover herself and where she belongs. Bridget is the best friend anyone can ask for. Her life may be in Toronto, but her heart is on PEI. Her brother Felix, aka Wolf. The man whose looks can stop any woman in her tracks. The blue of his eyes as enrapturing as the ocean. The perfect setting, phenomenally written characters, and a plot that keeps you reading at high rates of speed.
Bridget has three rules for Lucy when she is on PEI. The most important is to never fall in love with her brother. With that rule hanging over her head, she had no idea the type of fire Felix could start within her. She lives for their trips to the island to unwind, and to take in the best view…Felix. They stumbled across one another on Lucy’s first trip to PEI, landing them tangled in his sheets. What she didn’t know at the time was that he was Bridget’s brother. Leaving her to bury her feelings and desires for him. Leaving her to compare every man she dates to him. Having her dream of a life where there are no rules. When Bridget disappears to the island days before her wedding, Lucy follows. Wanting to know what has left her together friend, drifting in the wind. As secrets are withheld and sparks fly, will their friendship hold?
This is such a fun read. I wanted to dive into a lobster roll, followed by fried clams, sitting on the dock overlooking the ocean. I loved how the story plays out. Keeping you on edge with the drama going on in Bridget’s life, that she is holding onto. Making your mind run wild with possibilities. This is the perfect beach read.

I really enjoyed the setting and all the little details that brought this to life. However, that’s where it ends for me. The love story was just not believable, and started way too quickly – nothing about it felt organic. I found myself rolling my eyes much too often while reading. Tries to be sexy (in fact that’s basically the entirety of the relationship) but doesn’t have enough build or character development to make it spicy or worth it. Also Felix does not sound like a believable man in the slightest- sounds like a complete fantasy made up by a woman. Most disappointing read from this author yet for me.

Once again, a great story by Carley Fortune. The characters were lovable, their background story well written and it made me want to visit Prince Edward Island. I love summer romances and if the country or city where the story takes place is the main character’s happy place, it’s even better.
The only thing that bothered me was why they couldn’t be together. The sister forbade it and so what ? They are grown-ups, not teenagers. Just talk like adults and be happy maybe ? But, I’m a sucker for second chance romance so who am I to judge ?
I really liked the friendship between Lucy and Bridget even if Bridget not talking was really frustrating. When she finally opened up, my heart broke ! And I must say I wasn’t expecting this ! I was clearly thinking she was pregnant. It’s rare to surprise me in romance !
I love when friendship is realistic. People grow up and things change and sometimes it’s hard to adapt. That was really beautiful and well written.
I don’t even know what to say about Felix ! He was so thoughtful, nice and gorgeous (yes the cleft chin and the piercing blue eyes did it for me), (I’m weak).
The ending was beautiful and so peaceful. A town can be your happy place, your significant other as well and sometimes it’s both.

This book is your typical romance novel. If you like that genre, then you will love this book. I found the characters were well developed, and the storyline was interesting. Great summer read.

I loved this book! While reading it gave me all the feels, the heart dropping angst, the fluttering of butterflies in my stomach, the giddy feeling with a big, dopey smile going across my face. Everything I need and require to make a romance a 5 star read for me!
I’m going to be honest here. I went in with a bit of trepidation when I picked this book up, because although I liked Every Summer After. Fortune’s second book, Meet Me at The Lake, was just okay for me, so I didn’t really know where this one was going to fall. I can easily say this one is my favorite by Fortune yet! It was perfect. Everything I wanted and then some!
I fell in love with the characters. I loved the female protagonist, Lucy, her love for flowers, running her own flower shop, and her dream of one day having her own cut flower farm. If I hadn’t been so stressed out the last two weeks with my lack of success of my very own Floret Farm flower seeds that I direct sowed in my garden, I’d probably love the fact of how much Erin and her Floret Flower Farm was mentioned in this book. But that is an entire different matter. 😅
Then we get Felix. He was amazing. He was everything you’d want the male main character to be and more. I loved how this book started out. My jaw literally hit the floor, and then with the back and forth timeline of then and now really build this story up for me.
And lastly, the setting. Oh my gosh. The setting. 😍 I had never even heard of Prince Edward Island (I had to look it up on the map), but Fortune’s writing and the descriptions of this place makes me want to visit right away. It had me craving oysters and wanting that laid back, small town ocean vibe asap! This book would obviously be perfect by the water while you are enjoying your own vacation, but with the way Fortune writes about PEI, the food and drinks, etc, you could easily escape to this place straight on your couch at home. And really that’s just what we all are looking for when we pick up a book, right?
I am really shocked the two romance books that released this spring and that I haven’t expected much out of are so far some of my favorite reads this year, and for me that is a lesson to never write off an author or think you they can’t give you something that you will absolutely love!
