NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • College exes break all the rules when they reunite years later in this enemies to lovers, second-chance romance, the companion novel to the TikTok sensation The Cheat Sheet—from the New York Times bestselling author of Practice Makes Perfect.
“A really fun, chemistry-filled sports romance you don’t want to miss!”—Hannah Grace, author of Icebreaker
Nora Mackenzie’s entire career lies in the hands of famous NFL tight end Derek Pender, who also happens to be her extremely hot college ex-boyfriend. Nora didn’t end things as gracefully as she could have back then, and now it has come back to haunt her. Derek is her first client as an official full-time sports agent and he’s holding a grudge.
Derek has set his sights on a little friendly revenge. If Nora Mackenzie, the first girl to ever break his heart, wants to be his agent, oh, he’ll let her be his agent. The plan is simple: make Nora’s life absolutely miserable. But if Derek knows anything about the woman he once loved—she won’t quit easily.
Instead of giving in, Nora starts a scheme of her own. But then a wild night in Vegas leads to Nora and Derek in bed the next morning married. With their rule book out the window, could this new relationship save their careers or spark the romance of a lifetime?

Based on my reading habits, I shouldn’t be as in love with Sarah Adam’s books as I am. But alas, every time… she just sucks me in and leaves me smiling.
📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The Rule Book by Sarah Adams
📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Standalone-ish.
📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: E-book on Kindle. Borrowed from Libby.
📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Contemporary romance
📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Sports romance (football), grumpy/sunshine, second chance, fake marriage, all the feels, dyslexia representation.
📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Derek and Nora dated in college, before abruptly breaking it off. Years later, Derek needs a new agent and Nora is assigned to him. He’s at a crossroads – coming back from an major ankle injury – and she’s trying to prove herself in a male-dominated industry. But sparks from the past are immediate and distracting for both of them.
🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: The last few Sarah Adams books I’ve read have been such great reads. And I leave them with a warm fuzzy feeling, which is the goal, right?
The Rule Book was one I wasn’t sure I would love – since I had such a meltdown over the ending to The Cheat Sheet. But this book was so well-rounded and featured two characters I couldn’t help but love. Nora is eccentric – and while I typically can’t deal with FMCs like that, she was not only extremely likeable, but funny and unique and relatable in a way that made me smile. Derek? Impossible not to fall in love with that guy.
The one thing I absolutely love was the mutual pining. Nothing like two people who see one another again and immediately their hearts start pounding and they’re completely gone for each other. There were parts of this book that should have felt stereotypical – a Vegas wedding, a staged honeymoon, etc. – but read so romantically I couldn’t find it in me to care.
I think it’s safe to say I just love the warm hug of Sarah Adams’ writing… and I can’t wait to continue along for the ride.
𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹: 3/5 🌶🌶🌶
𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀: I absolutely adore her other series, When in Rome if you’re looking to read more Sarah Adams.

Lots of laugh out loud moments in this book and adored how quirky Nora is, but the main characters getting in their own way routine got tiresome pretty quickly. Also, slow burns are not my jam and this was a SLOOOOOW one. Perhaps one of the best parts of this book for me was the relationship between all of the players, but I wish I had realized BEFORE reading this that it is a spin off of The Cheat Sheet, I would have read that first. I think they are standalone enough to read them in any order, but I hate the chaos of that on a personal level. A fun read if you’re looking for a palate cleanser or something light and low on the emotional investment scale.

At first, I didn’t like Nora. I thought she was immature and her monologues and humour made my eyes roll. I think it’s because it didn’t sound real. I know romance is absolutely not to show love or personality as it is in the real world but maybe, she was too much for me ? Then she started to say that sometimes she was too much for others and I don’t know, she moved me. And then I started to like her.
Derek was adorable and I loved him from the start. The thing that I liked the most was his relationship with his closest friends. Men don’t act like that in real life but I would love them to because that was so cute ! I wasn’t interested by the plot of “The cheat sheet” but now I kind of want to read it, just to know more about Nathan and Bree !
The book was sometimes predictable but it succeeded in surprising me more than once. I had a really good time reading it !

Yeah, she is that good. This book was an epic enemy to lovers with all the feels. I just love their witty banter. I loved everything about it. It’s cute and sexy and smart and fun. Not a dull moment straight up one of my reads this year.

I loved this book, this was one of my most anticipated reads and it didn’t disappoint. I love Sarah’s writing, I feel like every time I read one of her books I’m snuggled up in bed and have the best time reading
I’m a huge lover of second chance romance and this book reminds me of why I love them so much. Even tho they both were hurt over the break up/past events you could see how much they meant to each other still though their words and actions
The marriage in Vegas happens later in the book than I first thought it would and I was kinda just waiting for it to happen and wanted to rush through the build up of it, however upon reflection I’m glad that it took a while to get to it as we spent time seeing the hurt and love they both had for eachother still after all this time and I loved that, it made the getting back together properly so much better and really cemented their relationship
Derek is 1000% in contention for book boyfriend of the year, the love he had for Nora was so cute and there were several plot twists from him that had me screaming
I loved Nora and how strong and badass she is but also how she could admit that she needed breaks and wanted someone to lean on (aka Derek)
I loved seeing the gang from The Cheat Sheet back together again, I kinda wish there were more scenes of Bree and Nora as I just want to see their friendship more
Overall I loved this book and highly recommend everyone to read it, even if you haven’t read the cheat sheet (which I don’t think you have to)
– second chance
– accidental marriage in vegas
– sports romance (football)
– sports agent x client
– forced proximity
– there’s only one bed

The Rule Book, by Sarah Adams was a joy to read. This sweet, sports romance is an engaging, humorous, feel-good story. We follow Nora and Derek, two former college sweethearts who abruptly break-up on the verge of graduation just as Derek’s career is beginning to take off. Years later they find one another once again, quite unexpectedly, under rather awkward circumstances, with a determination to hide their past and what they once meant to each other.
When Nora is given the tremendous opportunity to manage the famous football player, Derek Pender, as his sports agent, she has no doubt that she can do it even though she’s a rookie. What she doesn’t know is if she can handle working so closely with him given her lingering feelings for him from years ago. When they drunkenly get married one night and Nora subsequently faces the possibility of being fired, the two decide to sell their impromptu wedding as legitimate and intentional. But what does this actually mean for them as a couple and is it just for the sake of saving Nora’s career?
I truly loved this story! There is a depth beneath the romantic plot line that explores various insightful issues. I adored Nora with her bright, sunshiny ways, undermined by a steely strong, creative, clever spirit. She knows who she is and isn’t embarrassed by it. Derek is a generally good guy, as well as a star football player who is currently rehabbing a potential career-ending injury. Despite the lack of communication trope that creeps up repeatedly and is a bit frustrating, I was charmed by everything else in this story. The banter, the chemistry, the friendships, and the mutual female support in the workplace made this story a winner.
The manner in which Nora and Derek treated each other was touching. The honest view of the issues the characters struggled with, as well as the mental health representation and learning differences with made them realistic and relatable. The Rule Book is a quick-reading, entertaining, delightful story that will warm your heart and leave you smiling.
