Detailed description:

From the author of The Brighter the Light comes the moving story about one woman’s reason for leaving home and the love that brings her back.

When Olympia leaves her small Virginia town, she doesn’t expect to look back, much less ever come home. But after a year on the road, her sister’s engagement pulls Olympia into everything she left behind: her family, her husband, and the grief she’s been trying to forget.

She’s determined to stay a few days, maybe a week—just enough time to visit gravestones and sign off on the divorce her husband, Spencer, asked for. But he’s reeling from their shared loss, as well as complications with his aging parents, leaving his heart just as fragile as Olympia’s. The more time they spend in each other’s orbit, the less sure they are they’ll be able to walk away for good.

As family secrets come to light and family bonds stretch to the breaking point, Olympia must decide where she’s going next and where she belongs. She’s used to coping with life’s complications alone, but maybe the best way to heal is together.

Olympia is on a trauma induced self discovery journey. Her story is very believable and relatable. The characters are real. The plot well developed. This is not a quick read because it is very thought provoking. You will find yourself doing your own self exploration. Love this author because she is so skilled in her craft.

This is a great story. The storyline is beautiful. The characters are lovely. I enjoyed every page of this book, every struggle, every secret. The redemption at the end is amazing and I cant wait to read more from Mary Ellen Taylor

I loved this book. Full of pain and sorrow, but hope and love are equal partners in this story. Mary Ellen captures the wonderful and tenacious Olympia to perfection – I can smell the fragrance of Tony’s pizzas and the importance it plays in the lives of all the characters in this book. The ending was the best and I smiled when I finished it. Hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

Olympia and Spencer are headed for divorce, and there seems little point in delaying the inevitable, but then life has a habit of getting in the way of things…if you let it. This is a wonderful story, that I struggled to put down….it’s like travelling on a corkscrew rollercoaster, with twists at every turn. It made me laugh and cry, but some of them were happy tears.

What a great book, with a lot of rollercoaster ups and downs and truth built into every chapter. Olympia escaped her life with her husband Spencer after losing their baby and on the road and running towards an uncertain future seems to be her fate. When her sister invites her to her engagement party, Olympia feels obligated to return and thus begins the saga of what tomorrow will bring for the ill-fated couple. This is a love story with bumps in the road and storms over the mountains, too. The characterization is perfect for making the characters relatable and lovable. They are vulnerable, dynamic and have good chemistry with each other if they will just let it happen. The plot is well-paced, not too fast or slow, and intriguing the whole way through. I was totally invested in finding out what would happen with Olympia and Spencer as well as Barbara, Frank, Eve and Brad. I liked the theme of making life an adventure because you never know what will happen next or when it will end. There are tragedies, hopefulness and a promise that things can get better. This is a well-written tale of love, loss, forgiveness and being courageous. I loved it and highly recommend to anyone who likes more than a bit of snark and wisdom in their contemporary fiction.

In life we may sometimes find ourselves being drowned under wave after wave of misfortune. This book so powerfully conveyed the life and emotion of a character who life had tried to anhilate yet she kept on kicking. The world the author has built is vivid and comes off the pages with every character being multifaceted and flawed. This book will stay with me for a while. Would absolutely recommend you read!

The Promises of Tomorrow is about Olympia a woman who is on a healing road trip journey to channel her grief into an adventure created by her mother. For years Olympia put aside her own dreams to fulfill her sisters and her moms. Once she got her sister and mother settled Olympia found Spencer a man who put aside his life as a pro golfer to help run the family quarry business in Virginia.

Olympia found herself back in Virginia to attend an event with her sister Eve. The time back in Virginia became one of facing her fears and learning to accept today for who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Olympia journaled her travels through social media. The posts were a reflection of her personal experience not the landscape. Personally I think if your travelling the world you would want to document places you visited with pictures and suggestions. But that’s not the case in her posts. Im my opinion these posts didn’t add any necessary information to the growth of the character.

It must admit it was odd reading a story dated in the future without it being a futuristic story. I’m glad I had the ebook words to follow. Had I relied solely on the audiobook I would not know when Olympia was referring to the past. Even with the words in front of me I found my mind drifting and hard to process the timeline.

Mary Ellen Taylor writes about Olympia a woman who has experienced love and loss at a young age. This is a contemporary romance set in Virginia. This is my first time experiencing a Mary Ellen Taylor book. While I like contemporary romances. I wasn’t as invested in these characters lives. Even the backstory about rocks wasn’t enough of a draw for me.

Cortney Wright is the solo female narrator who was the voice of Olympia. I wasn’t quite sure is there was a southern accent or something else. The voice didn’t match with what I expected from Olympia. I did appreciate having both the audiobook and ebook as I’m an eyes and ears person. Having both certainly enhances my experience.

Really enjoyed this book, which is very well written and edited and fast-paced. The characters are believable with positive and negative character traits. Has some mystery, some romance, sadness, and joy. Well worth taking time to enjoy.

I found this book very moving in so many ways. Love is something that affects us all in ways that sometimes takes us by surprise, in this case it’s walks beside heart ache and life. I would love to read more
