Detailed description:

Soon to be a Netflix limited series, from New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand comes a “quintessential summer read” (People) about the many ways family can fill our lives with love — if they don’t kill us first.

It’s Nantucket wedding season, also known as summer-the sight of a bride racing down Main Street is as common as the sun setting at Madaket Beach. The Otis-Winbury wedding promises to be an event to remember: the groom’s wealthy parents have spared no expense to host a lavish ceremony at their oceanfront estate.

But it’s going to be memorable for all the wrong reasons after tragedy strikes: a body is discovered in Nantucket Harbor just hours before the ceremony-and everyone in the wedding party is suddenly a suspect. As Chief of Police Ed Kapenash interviews the bride, the groom, the groom’s famous mystery-novelist mother, and even a member of his own family, he discovers that every wedding is a minefield-and no couple is perfect. Featuring beloved characters from The Castaways, Beautiful Day, and A Summer Affair, The Perfect Couple proves once again that Elin Hilderbrand is the queen of the summer beach read.

My first Elin Hilderbrand enjoyed the book. Descriptions of the the characters were all very well done. The story line too was good. Looking forward to read more of Elin .

This book is an easy read and I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed all of the characters, except Featherleigh. However, like most books I read these days, the ending was rushed and left questions. Maybe a sequel will come??

Elin Hilderbrand once again brings her readers to the shores of Nantucket, this time for the event of the season. The wedding of Celeste Otis and Benji Winbury promises to be an epic party, and no expense has been spared. Tragedy strikes on the morning of the wedding, however, when a body is discovered just hours before the festivities are set to begin. With the immediate family and bridal party all staying at the house where the wedding is, everyone becomes a suspect in the ensuing murder investigation. As information is gathered and suspects are questioned, it becomes clear that each and every person at the beach house has secrets to hide.

With the Netflix adaptation for this novel dropping in September, I wanted to make sure that I read the book first (because in almost every case, the book is better than the movie). I have read books by Elin Hilderbrand before, and have thoroughly enjoyed them, so I was excited to give this one a try. Almost instantly, she draws the reader in. The plot is super fast paced, and it fluctuates back and forth between present day, and events that happened in the past which culminate with a body in the ocean.

There were so many characters in the book, but while there was a perpetually changing POV, it was still easy to follow along with what was going on. One of the things I loved most about the laundry list of characters was that each one of them had some aspect of their backstory that let the reader believe that they had something to do with the suspected murder. My convictions over “who dun it” changed with almost every chapter, and I found myself second (and third, and fourth) guessing my conclusions as the story progressed.

This book truly had a little bit of everything. It was part murder mystery, part romance, part family drama, part wealthy society chaos, and I ate it all up. There were characters to love, characters to hate, and everything in between. I loved the Agatha Christie feel of having all the suspects forced together while the detective works his magic. I also loved that it checked off the boxes for both page turning suspense and perfect beach read. I had high expectations for this book from the start, and it absolutely delivered.

The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand dives into the heart of Nantucket’s wedding season, combining opulence and mystery in this addicting novel. Celeste and Benji’s wedding promises grandeur and splendor. However, the festivities take a dark turn when a body is discovered in Nantucket Harbor. Chief of Police Ed Kapenash is thrust into a web of secrets and lies as he interrogates the wedding party, each harboring their own hidden motives. The author carefully crafts each character with depth and complexity. The Perfect Couple is an excellent blend of romance, suspense, and intricate character study that you’re sure to love!

Das Buch war in einem ganz schlechten Zustand. Ich habe schon oft gebrauchte Bücher gekauft, aber die waren in einem wesentlich besseren Zustand, als dieses Buch.

The Winbury family is full of wealth and elegance and shows it among their lavish lifestyles and many luxurious homes. One in particular is at Nantucket and is soon to be the setting of their youngest son’s wedding. Benji and Celeste were supposed to get married the Saturday after the 4th of July, but instead, the bride wakes up to find her maid of honor dead at the beach. Was it an accident or was it a murder? The chief of police and Detective Nick (The Greek) are determined to find out. They uncover a multitude of secrets and discover that even the most beautiful and rich families are never what they seem.

I thought this was a GREAT read! I loved it and honestly didn’t know who did it or what happened until the end. It was a great murder-mystery/beach read. I cannot wait to watch the series on this book coming out on Netflix! I had tried an Elin Hilderbrand book once before and was not impressed, but this book has made me want to give more of her books a try. If you like a classic, well-written mystery novel set during the summer at the beach, then this book is for you!

I have not generally been compelled to read Elin Hilderbrand’s novels as they are too much “the beach-read genre” for me. But I have been a summer resident of Nantucket since 1984 and was therefore interested in “Summer of ‘69” which I found historically significant. Recently a Nantucket friend suggested I read “The Perfect Couple” since there has been a series filmed on island based on this novel that will air in September. Although I’m not much of a series-watcher either, I decided to indulge as I’m curious to see Nicole Kidman perform with Nantucket as a very familiar backdrop! The novel was very entertaining to this end, and an easy read which I flew through in a couple sittings… a fun page-turner!

The story (what story ? )is stupid, but not more than certain TV series. The characters and cartoon-like. It’s a book just to pass time and will entertain midinettes.

This is the second time I purchased this book. I must have lost the first one, but I wanted to re-read it, so I bought another copy. It is my favorite book by this author because the characters are well-developed and complex, the plot is multi-layered and interesting, and it is hard to put down. I prefer the older Elin books as the newer ones have too many detailed and long descriptions of food. Enough already. This book is a breath of fresh air, and you can curl up and get lost in this wonderful story.

  10. MadForMystery

With so many “suspects”, this book only reveals the killer in the last chapter. I love that about books. Keeps you guessing until the very end. Really well written. I felt I was in Nantucket with all the wedding guests. Can’t wait to read more of Elin’s books.

    Hard copy is big though!

  12. Alice

The novel describes Nantucket very well- beautiful and sunny.

The plot is rather thin and the ending is very predictable

No entanto, o final me decepcionou bastante, pois apresenta alguns furos narrativos. Ou seja, alguns elementos de mistério foram inseridos na trama apenas para confundir o leitor e, no final, não se resolve esses pontos.

Dado o preço, alto para uma versão em ebook, preferiria focar em outra obra, confesso.
