Christina Lauren, the instant New York Times bestselling and “reigning romance queens” (PopSugar), returns with a delicious new romance between the buttoned-up heir of a grocery chain and his free-spirited artist ex as they fake their relationship in order to receive a massive inheritance.
Anna Green thought she was marrying Liam “West” Weston for access to subsidized family housing while at UCLA. She also thought she’d signed divorce papers when the graduation caps were tossed, and they both went on their merry ways.
Three years later, Anna is a starving artist living paycheck to paycheck while West is a Stanford professor. He may be one of four heirs to the Weston Foods conglomerate, but he has little interest in working for the heartless corporation his family built from the ground up. He is interested, however, in his one-hundred-million-dollar inheritance. There’s just one catch.
Due to an antiquated clause in his grandfather’s will, Liam won’t see a penny until he’s been happily married for five years. Just when Liam thinks he’s in the home stretch, pressure mounts from his family to see this mysterious spouse, and he has no choice but to turn to the one person he’s afraid to introduce to his one-percenter parents—his unpolished, not-so-ex-wife.
But in the presence of his family, Liam’s fears quickly shift from whether the feisty, foul-mouthed, paint-splattered Anna can play the part to whether the toxic world of wealth will corrupt someone as pure of heart as his surprisingly grounded and loyal wife. Liam will have to ask himself if the price tag on his flimsy cover story is worth losing true love that sprouted from a lie.

I liked this book. Of course it was predictable, but it was fun. I really liked the 2 main characters. It was slightly cheesy how “good” of a person the girl was, but not so much that made me dislike the book. This is my second Christina Lauren book, and I would definitely recommend their books to anyone looking for a low stress, zero pit, easy breezy summer read. Oh, and the spicy scenes are always a nice bonus!

I love when a hyped book is good. It deserves all the talk I heard about it. It was so good. Banter was great. FMC was cooky and adorable. I started out listening to it as an audio book but I could not get enough and ended up buying the kindle version so I could read faster. It was that good. My first Christina Lauren book but it won’t be my last.

“That’s so romantic. My husband’s idea of romance is three pumps and a high five.”
Anna agreed to marry West to gain access to subsidised housing while at UCLA. The deal was sign the divorce papers and go their separate ways.
A lot can happen in three years. Anna is now juggling multiple jobs with the desire to be an artist and West is a professor at Stanford University. While he’s a heir to the Weston Foods empire he has no desire to sell his soul and contribute to the heartless corporation, what he is interested in is his inheritance.
The catch is his grandfather built in a clause stating West won’t see a dime until his been happily married for five years. Weeks away from delivery day his family pressure to meet his wife comes to a head and West has no choice but to beg his not so ex wife to join him on a remote island with all his family and stakelholders.
Anna’s spark isn’t dulled in the presence of his toxic family, she agrees to play the part to help her father. Then the lines get blurred between pretend and read she quite quickly realises that money doesn’t always buy you happiness and West starts to see that money isn’t worth risking a shot a love, even if it started as a lie.
There is no better feeling than reading a one of your favourite authors books for the first time. I’ve read Clo’s backlist and this one was just perfection. I adored both main characters and how different they were. I’m low key a sucker for fake marriage so I ate it up.

First of all the writing is excellent. I’m disappointed when I turn to other authors who don’t seem to know how to write a book. But—Anna and Liam are on a 16 hour flight to Singapore and don’t make any effort to come up with a cover story?!? Don’t even decide what med school she was supposedly at. I was really bothered by her pink hair. It seemed to fit her original presentation, but her character developed into a very grounded, astute, philosophically sound woman who didn’t fit bubblegum hair. I kept picturing her with brown hair and it was jarring to be reminded that she had pink hair. I understand her independent stance, but that was clear from her character. I loved her, just not her hair.

The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren was a fun read. Great summer beach read. It is about Anna Green, who is a starving artist. Literally fired from service jobs while trying to paint and develop her artistry. One day Liam Weston shows up, not having seen him since college when they married on paper just to get better housing in college. Their divorce never came through so he has a proposal for her so that he will be able to receive his inheritance. The story goes on from there and is fun to read. I will say there is very explicit sexual parts that were a little much but I would not, not read for that point. Overall the characters were well developed and fun.

What a rollercoaster. This story has a lot of tropes but they work. This story is so fun, a bit suspenseful and the spice is chef’s kiss. I fell in love with both Anna and Liam (aka West Weston) and this is one of those books I wish I could experience again for the first time.

Anna is sunshine chaos with a big heart. Liam is a grumpy, closed-off professor who is torn between his family and himself. They are opposites that start off with a purely transactional marriage but it turns into so much more. I love the backstory of how they start & how they come back together after almost five years. Their opposite personalities & lifestyles complement each other and bring out such great banter.
During this crazy, lavish wedding week, there is so much family drama and mystery that this story turns from a rom-com to a more suspenseful page-turner. Liam’s family created the hurdles that puts Liam and Anna on a path towards realizing that their marriage of convenience might just be better if it was more than just convenient. And the spice is WOW. I loved every moment of their relationship.
And that EPILOGUE! I ate up every second of how their story eventually gets to the HEA. And thinking about it now still puts a stupidly goofy smile on my face.

Christina Lauren has worked their magic again with “The Paradise Problem,” a delectable tale of love, deception, and personal growth. This novel blends humor, heart, and heat, creating a story that keeps you hooked from start to finish.
Anna Green and Liam “West” Weston are a captivating pair, drawn together by a twist of fate and an antiquated clause in a will. Lauren masterfully crafts their dynamic, from Anna’s free-spirited artistry to Liam’s structured, academic world. Their chemistry is palpable, sparking off the pages as they navigate the complexities of a fake marriage turned real.
The storyline is both charming and thought-provoking, exploring themes of authenticity, societal pressures, and what it truly means to belong. The juxtaposition of Anna’s bohemian lifestyle with the opulent world of the Weston family adds a rich layer of tension and intrigue. Yet, it’s the deeply personal journey of both protagonists that truly shines through from start to finish.
Lauren’s witty dialogue, well-rounded characters, and clever plot twists elevate this book to a standout status in contemporary romance. If you’re looking for a swoon-worthy escape that also prompts reflection on the tangible vs. the intangible, “The Paradise Problem” will not disappoint. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions that delivers a hearty mix of laughter, tears, and pure joy.
Highly recommended!

💭 thoughts:
This was a unique twist on marriage of convenience/fake marriage! Yes, it still had to do with an inheritance, but they get married at first for subsidized housing, and then reunite 3 years later.
Anna is one of my fav fmcs ever, she’s just the sweetest and most deserving of love and loyalty.
I appreciated how opposite they were, yet deep down their values did align.
West/Liam’s family is so intense, I loved the drama and how this brought them even closer together.
Something small, but that I love is when the last few chapters of the book take place over an extended period of time.
I prefer this so much more than a short epilogue.

There is more to life than money!
This was such a cute and easy read. The love story that developed despite the very different circumstances was so loving. It was also lovely to see the important messages of life unfold throughout the series of events. A very light, but hearty summer read.
