Three women form an unbreakable bond in a sexy, suspenseful, and adventurous novel about empowerment and sisterhood through thick and thin.
Venus McGee, Draya Carter, and Jackie Benson are coworkers with a lot in common. They’re smart, independent, driven, and deserving of recognition—certainly more than they’ve been handed by a demoralizing boss. He’s the topic of conversation at their impromptu get-together after the company holiday party, where the threesome fantasizes about a life without him. There has to be an alternative to taking a deep breath and sucking it up. There is. It’s just not the one they expected.
When morning comes, Venus, Draya, and Jackie are blindsided by murder—a twist of fate that brings a startling new challenge to the table and forces them to navigate a hair-raising detour they never saw coming. For better and (unless they can help it) for worse, it’s going to turn their world upside down. What starts as a necessary bond of mutual trust soon morphs into an empowering and galvanizing friendship that Venus, Draya, and Jackie need now more than ever.
I really didn’t think I’d enjoy the book but ended up really liking it and relating to it. There are so many brown girls out there like these 3 women! With that being said, whew chile. There were so many things I didn’t see coming and some you do. But overall this story kept me engaged and had me cracking up at Jackie’s behind.

I was looking forward to reading this book because I have really been interested in mysteries. This book started off with the murder of one of the characters. However, as the book progressed, it veered off to the lives of the three women who were potential suspects. I expected more suspense, but the book wasn’t very suspenseful. The number of detailed intimate scenes was unnecessary. I’m glad I was able to finish the book because it did pick up toward the end.
Side note: Why does the “killer” always have to tell their whole plan when they are revealed??? 🤣

I enjoyed this book. I will never get tired reading positive representations of diverse black women. My favorite aspects of this story included the impact of found family, the nuances of love, and the struggles of success within the workplace.
I was a little disappointed that the story didn’t focus more on the murder/mystery plot. I think fleshing out that storyline a little more would have helped to quicken the pace of the story and add a uniqueness to the overall vibe of the book.
Bottom line – this book was a winner for me. I recommend!

Wow… How many authors can write something that anyone can resonate with. A.C. Authur offers fresh material, her books aren’t repetitive. Shell evoke nearly every human emotion in this book. About acceptance, rejection, and more. Friendships formed and built daily… A must read.

I loved the characters in this book. I could see people I know in each one of the characters. They seemed very real and not over flawed. The humor was flowed very well, it was not forced or over the top. It started off a little slow, but then had a nice pace. Very good read!
