I am aa fulltime 24/7 caretaker for my mother who has dementia. I purchased many books on the topics but they weren’t practical applications. This book is a must have, and recommended by mom’s neurologist. It offers practical advice and solutions many new problems you will face as a caregiver or merely a loved one of a person with dementia.

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for The 36-Hour Day: A Family Guide to Caring for People Who Have Alzheimer Disease and Other Dementias. This book has been a lifesaver in helping me navigate the challenges of caring for my loved one with Alzheimer’s. The clear and concise language, along with practical advice and support, has given me the tools I need to provide the best possible care. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is on this journey – it is truly a must-have resource! The authors, Nancy L. Mace and Peter V. Rabins, draw from their extensive experience in the field of geriatric care to offer a comprehensive guide that covers everything from understanding the disease and its progression to managing daily activities and coping with behavioral changes. The book also addresses the emotional toll caregiving can take and provides strategies for self-care and support. I have found solace in knowing that I am not alone in this journey, and that there are practical solutions to the challenges I face. This book has truly been a lifeline for me.

My father was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I bought this for my mother to help her begin to understand and make a plan for his care. She has found so much helpful information that she has shared with the rest of us. I highly recommend this for any caretakers of loved ones with Alzheimer’s.

This book is very helpful if you’re caring or care about someone with dementia whether they are recently diagnosed or right in the thick of it. It’s not meant to be read cover to cover, but rather to refer to the table of contents, like en encyclopedia, depending on what scenarios or symptom present.

My brother-in-law’s neurologist recommended this book for my sister. We, her sisters, decided to read it, too, in order to support both of them. I loved this book! It is quite comprehensive and written in a manner that all can understand. The author covers most every possible situation that may arise explaining ways to cope with each event and what to learn for next time. There are anecdotal stories included to help visual situations, too. I have a medical background and wanted to read it cover to cover, but the author does suggest that you read each section that applies to your situation (sort of like a reference book). I have a friend who is struggling with different changes in each of her parent’s neurological status, so I bought this book for her. She, too, is understanding a lot more now, too.

Has really helped me understand my mum’s Alzheimer’s. The only negative is it is very American in places so some of advice for getting help not relevant for UK. But gives you an idea of what to look for

This book came recommended to me by my doctor who says he’s been recommending it since the 70s. It opens up the world of dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, allowing us to see why elderly parents and friends, who are enduring the ravages of these diseases, behave as they do.
I very highly recommend this book to anyone who is dealing with loved ones who have been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s. A true blessing.
