There are a ton of “off grid living” and “survival” books out there and I’ve read my fair share. While not living an off grid life, yet, I’m in the research stage to learn as much as I can. There is a ton of information in this book covering a variety of topics and I found it very thorough. While I would agree with others on having more details and possibly pictures versus drawing the author has been careful to include references for many of these areas where on could go to get further details. This book, in my opinion, is not attempting to be the holy grail for all things survival and I don’t believe any one book could be. I did however find it much more informative than many other books with much more detail that could be acted on right out of this book. I’d recommend this to anyone just beginning to determine how they would live an off grid survivalist type of life and even for those down the path this book provides more than enough detail to supplement any knowledge in many areas you may have already researched. I highly recommend it.

The author makes everything easy to understand by giving clear directions and pictures. You will learn how to build basic buildings, make clean energy, keep food fresh, and purify water. Each project is practical and doable, even for beginners. There is a lot of great information in this book.

I liked the way Johnathan Nash provides comprehensive easily understandable text and illustrations, especially when discussing complex topics such as solar. This is the clearest description of how to size and budget for your needs. It is a real handbook and you would be challenged to find any significant gaps. My suggestions would be to expand on composting or combusting toilets, as we ladies are fussy about these things, efficient heating, as well as the usefulness of gravity pumps. Also a word to the wise about not to attempt moving on to a property as winter approaches, as all these things take time and weather to set up. I have an off grid recreational property and will be using this for guidance. Great stuff.

This book is full of (relatively) easy, implementable projects that most of us should try.
This weekend I plan on trying to make some charcoal because the price of the stuff has skyrocketed here and the bags you buy are more full of dust than anything else.
I’m also going to build a dehydrator. Our gardens are starting to overproduce on us now and it’ll be great to dehydrate some produce that will get us through the winter.
I’m sure I’ll give a bunch of the other projects as go as well as time progresses.

This book is just exceptional, there are no other words to describe it: it looks clear since the start by the level of detail of the topics and sub topics. I’m not a newbie when it comes to off grid living as I was born in a small village and I spent my first 20 years living in the countryside, but still even for me this book offers so many useful tips to solve almost every kind of situations you can find yourself in: there are more than 70 projects described, and the cool part is that every projects have many images and graphics to describe it in the best way possible! Totally recommended.

As an avid off-grid living enthusiast but also someone who is lacking in the skill set, I recently acquired the “Survival Projects for Off-Grid Living: Survivalist’s Handbook of DIY Projects for Preparedness,” and it has proven to be an invaluable addition to my preparedness toolkit.
This handbook is a treasure trove of DIY projects that cater to every aspect of off-grid survival. From sustainable energy solutions to water purification techniques, the author leaves no stone unturned in providing practical, step-by-step instructions. The clear and concise language used throughout the book makes it accessible to both novices and seasoned survivalists.
One aspect I particularly appreciate is the emphasis on the detailed step-by-step process of each project in every chapter. The handbook doesn’t just offer quick fixes; it educates readers on the principles behind each project, fostering a deeper understanding of off-grid living. The detailed illustrations accompanying the instructions further enhance the clarity of the content.
The diversity of projects covered is impressive. Whether you’re looking to fortify your shelter, establish a reliable water source, or enhance your security measures, this handbook has you covered. The inclusion of alternative materials and products as well as budget-friendly options ensures that these projects are adaptable to various situations and financial constraints.
The author’s expertise shines through, instilling confidence in the reliability of the information provided. The handbook doesn’t merely focus on surviving; it equips readers with the skills needed to thrive in off-grid environments.
In conclusion, the “Survival Projects for Off-Grid Living: Survivalist’s Handbook of DIY Projects for Preparedness” is a must-have for anyone serious about self-sufficiency. It’s a comprehensive guide that goes beyond the basics, offering a wealth of knowledge and empowering readers to take control of their off-grid experience. I highly recommend this handbook to all people interested in Survivalist knowledge and off-grid enthusiasts.

Review: The thing I like most about this book is that as the author states it’s designed to give you small projects to add to your lifestyle to make you self sufficient. This book gives detailed instructions to help anyone began projects that help each of us meet needs from getting water to much more advanced projects, like wind and solar power. As someone who often struggles with just reading instructions and being able to picture the process, I found the instructions and pictures in this book easy to understand and follow. I really appreciate the information on the 3 bucket Bio-filter system fascinating and something I’d like to use, along with the information on outdoor cooking options and some of the gardening options. This book covers many topics and is full of information but not exhaustive necessarily on specific topics, this would be impossible in one book. I think the author’s encouragement to leave reviews and information are also to add to this. I think a Facebook page, website or group might be a good resource for more of this after people have read the book. There is A LOT of good information in this book and I highly recommend it. I will say some information like hand drilling a well is very regional and would not work in my region. For instance where wells are often 500ft or more, yet other parts of the water collection and purification are very helpful here. In the area of trash disposal as someone who lives in a rural area, some additions to this is burn barrels , recycling especially plastics. Most trash collection places have a free option to drop off recyclables. The herb section is good though including which parts of each herb used would be additional helpful. I know the author recommends getting plant identification guides for your region so this maybe kept more simple for this reason. This book has information for those with the money to invest on major projects and yet many simpler projects for this of us on much more limited resources! This books is a great source to keep on hand since none of us may know when the information maybe needed!
