Detailed description:

From the first content creator to interview President Biden, leading progressive voice Brian Tyler Cohen takes a step back from the day-to-day news cycle to explain how American politics has turned into such a dumpster fire—and what Democrats need to do to get us out of it.

In Shameless, Brian Tyler Cohen lays bare the long con of the modern Republican Party. While the radical right continues hiding behind gaslighting maneuvers, artificial slogans, and hollow catchphrases, Cohen’s unflinching narrative illuminates the realities and dangers of the ever-widening gulf between the vaunted Republican brand and their actual behavior.

With a foreword by Congressman Jamie Raskin, drawing on interviews and insights from Pete Buttigieg, Mehdi Hasan, Jen Psaki, and other luminaries of the Left, Cohen reveals:

  • How Republicans have leaned on their historical branding to give themselves a permission structure to behave antithetically to everything they say;
  • Why the mainstream media has proved itself a willing participant in this ongoing farce— particularly since the rise of toxic, sensationalist MAGA mania; and
  • What lessons Democrats can glean from a clear-eyed view of the landscape we’re operating in—and the steps we must take to rebalance our political landscape.

During this all-hands-on-deck moment in our history, Shameless is essential reading for those seeking to understand our dire situation, and a rallying cry for those fighting to preserve democracy.

    So happy with this book!

Well-written and informative book. A great read. Footnote for the publishers that dropped the ball by not including the Signed Nameplate with the he shipment.

A great book by Brian Tyler Cohen! I was a little disappointed that the signed name plate was missing, I had preordered this book in May of 2024 and thought it was included. Regardless, I support BTC’s hard work on this book and his “No Lies” youtube channel. His book is well written and is a summary of the mess we call the Republican Party these days and gives much insight as to how the media went through great lengths to make this mess happened.
I noticed peeps are rating only four stars bc of the missing name plate, I think that’s unfair to the author and the book, this mishap is the publishers mistake. Just saying…..,,

I am a BIG fan of BTC & I wanted to show my support by pre-ordering your book early. I was looking forward to receiving the signed name plate but was disappointed when it wasn’t included. The work that you do is invaluable. I will continue watching & sharing your videos.

After reading other reviews I learned that the name plate will be coming at a later date so I will wait patiently. Sorry to have complained.

Phenomenal read! Bryan Tyler Cohen has portrayed an insightful and factual narrative that is not currently found in any of the current mainstream corporate press. Thank you, Bryan!

So, I’m sure many people who pre-ordered this was told there would be a signed nameplate.
However, many people didn’t go through the HarperCollins website, which is where the one and ONLY notice was placed telling people they had to submit a proof of pre-order during the pre-order period.

Both HarperCollins and the author dropped the ball on the pre-order, because the nameplate should have automatically been included in ALL pre-orders. Someone ordering this shouldn’t have to submit a form to have a pre-order item be included with the pre-order. Hopefully, people who pre-ordered it will be compensated for it.

However, the book itself is a good read, but parts of the book come off as a rant. I was a big fan of BTC, but unfortunately this whole experience with the pre-order, has tarnished my view of BTC. My comments about it has been either ignored or flat-out deleted from his videos.

EDIT: I reached out to the publisher, HarperCollins, and asked if they would do another round of nameplates, as long as people sent in proof that they pre-ordered before August 13 (the publication date). And they weren’t helpful at all. In fact, they were a bit combative and dismissive.

I’m a longtime viewer and thrilled to read the book, but I am a little disappointed that there was not a signed nameplate in the order. On YouTube in the community tab, BTC shares that there should have been a form to fill out if you pre-ordered the book, and there wasn’t. I reviewed my order to make sure, and no form.

It’s not imperative that I have it, but it IS frustrating that there wasn’t more coordination with it being advertised as included in all pre-orders within a certain time frame.

Foe that, I’ll give it 4 stars cause I’ve already started reading the book, and I know it’s great. If the nameplate issue is resolved, I’ll happily update my ranking!

Here is an amazing first book by a recognized progressive talent. The author makes his case history with the help of contributors Jamie Raskin, Pete Buttigieg, Marc Elias, Al Franken, Mehdi Hasan, Dan Pfeiffer, Jen Psaki and Heather Cox Richardson
    .
I’ve had a hard time defining for myself what the Republicans are doing and why. It is confusing. I keep thinking we need a healthy two-party system to balance out in doing the country’s business. BUT we don’t have a healthy two-party system and we do have a house divided that seems to have been taking us down. And why?

Now Brian Tyler Cohen wrote this when the two candidates were probably going to be Biden and Trump and there was a kind of national (even international) malaise of perplexity about why that was. So though the book does include discussion of some contributions by our now Vice President, it predates her candidacy and the sea change in the voters’ mood, the many polls, the many pundit commentaries.

We just did have that change. We know too we face uproar and kerfuffle when you know who does not win and some counties or states muck up the electoral process. We know we have Marc Elias and his team working on that every day and that they have done for some time now.

I did not know the anatomy of this so-called conservative party. I just thought they were exclusive, selfish, racist and greedy. I did not know they were absolutely destructive in the service of those lesser human qualities. Maybe it started with Nixon, went all the way with Newt Gingrich in opposition to Obama, despite his bipartisan efforts and inclusive good intentions.

Now the entire anatomy is laid bare. The book is breath-taking. I read it in one day, today, and will be talking about it with friends and family. I especially appreciate the masterful writing, sparkling use of example and language, and despite the situation being serious, the book is fun, too, and funny.

Republican Party — LOOK IN THE MIRROR and let’s all do this better, all together, for the sake of our home.

I am so excited to finally have received my book. As soon as I heard that BTC wrote a book I had to order myself one. I am a little disappointed that there was no signed name plate. I will update my review once I have finished reading it. Thanks BTC….
