I just love their love story and their banter. My only regret is reading this before the entire trilogy is released lol I AM NOT PATIENT! I am also surprised by the cliffhanger but I can think of SOME ways that it makes sense, I have many theories lol… but I won’t spoil anything 😉 I just think we’ll have to wait and see! And that’s the worst part.

After reading powerless I had high hopes for this one and I am happy to say it did not disappoint. The story was so nicely molded that even after being murderers of *I am not going to give spoilers* they were perfect for each other. The chemistry on point, the depiction on point, the survival, the chase and the moment when they come face to face in that ring, perfect! The end was so unexpected and a cliffhanger so I am eager for the next book.

Reckless by Lauren Roberts My Book Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spoiler Free Review: This is some of the best banter I’ve found in the romantasy genre! If you were a fan of Powerless, you’ll likely love this second book. I felt the world building and storyline were a bit lacking in this one. Some aspects became repetitive, like with characters escaping, being captured, escaping, captured… But honestly, I didn’t come here for an SJM Throne of Glass, seven book epic. The details and world building never felt lacking, they just aren’t the main plot focus. The pacing kept things moving along nicely. Lauren sucked me in with Powerless with the banter and slow burn between our two main characters. I was looking for more, and boy did she deliver.
I’ve seen this book suggested alongside a lot of other books with spice. I believe Lauren has stated that she will be keeping this trilogy YA. But seriously don’t let that stop you. This was such a fun, light read!
Cover/Jacket – I’m a big stickler for keeping design elements consistent over the length of a series. This hardcover jacket is beautiful and matches the design of Powerless well. Under the jacket, I actually LOVE the simplistic designs on the front hardcovers. The sword and arrow compliment each other nicely. The continuity shifts a bit on the hardcover spines. The Powerless text is noticeably larger than Reckless…ugh. Why must publishers do this to us!! Not too much of a dealbreaker as I’ll be displaying these with the jackets on. I won’t comment on the size difference with Powerful… 😅

I don’t know how to start this review it was a mix of emotion for me. I LOVED IT. The first book wasn’t my favorite but the 2nd oh man is it ever good. I can’t wait to see if a 3rd comes out. I want to see what happens to Kai and Tai. Their happily ever after if you will. This book had me longing for more and the ending just incredible just when I thought it couldn’t end any worse boom the surprise. You will not be disappointed in this book. I certainly was not.

ever since i read the first book powerless, the second book was all i could think about! i don’t know what it is about Lauren Roberts’ writing but it always manages to enrapture me and keep me flipping the pages for more. i love the forbidden love trope and tension between paedyn and kai throughout this book. i thoroughly enjoyed the banter, the quotes, and the backstories that added even more depth to the characthers. i also liked the world building and lauren’s ability to create such a fascinating world of existence. the plot twist at the end made me gasp. i do not know what there is to expect for the next book but i absolutely cannot wait until next year. i am so eager to see what happens next and i hope it does not disappoint.
overall, i give reckless a 4.75 stars out of 5 because although everything about it was amazing, i just wished they would have played into the ‘enemy’ aspect of it a little more in order to create an even better tension and forbiddenness to the situation. despite this, that has not downplayed my enjoyment of the book whatsoever! if u are deciding on whether or not you want to read this book, i highly suggest u do because you will not be disappointed.

Spoiler warning…
This was a bit of a slow beginning. Kind of felt repetitive and a bit expected. The story obviously wasn’t as intricate as the first one of course since it was all about her running away a majority of the book. I didn’t expect her to be caught by Kai so early but it makes sense when looking at the amount of pages in the whole book. I think taking a break in between powerless and reckless made me forget how far along their relationship was at the end of powerless. Her kissing him so early on threw me for a loop.
I wish the beginning scene was not in the Powerful book. I think it took away the build up in the beginning because I had already read it. By about 75% of the book, I was invested in their love story again and thought it was cute how they were starting to profess their love to each other finally. The end was a bit expected since the velvet box kept getting highlighted throughout the book. I almost wish Kitt’s scenes weren’t in there or if the box wasn’t highlighted as much, so that way the ending would have been more of a surprise. Nonetheless, the ending makes me anxious and excited to see what happens next.

Parts of this book reads like poetry. Like the others, I could not put it down. I wish I waited until the entire trilogy was out to read them because THAT CLIFFHANGER. I will say I’m very disappointed Mak didn’t make an appearance in this book. I really hope he does in the next. I’m also curious what will happen with my presumed secret “villain” and the next book. I’m usually off for spicy books, but these books are so good that they don’t need it. The longing and the romance is all that’s needed. The plot speaks for itself.

“Reckless,” the second book in The Powerless Trilogy by Lauren Roberts, takes the excitement and suspense to a whole new level. As a fan of the first book, I was eager to dive into this sequel, and it did not disappoint.
The plot picks up seamlessly from where the first book left off, with even more twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages. Roberts continues to excel in world-building, creating a vivid and immersive setting that draws you in. The stakes are higher, and the tension is palpable as the characters face new challenges and dangers.
The character development in “Reckless” is outstanding. The protagonist and supporting characters grow in unexpected ways, revealing deeper layers of their personalities and backstories. The relationships and dynamics between them become even more complex and compelling, adding richness to the narrative.
One of the standout aspects of this book is the action. The pacing is spot-on, with plenty of thrilling moments that had me on the edge of my seat. While there are some predictable elements, the overall story is gripping and full of surprises.
If you enjoyed the first book in The Powerless Trilogy, “Reckless” is a must-read. It’s an intense and thrilling sequel that will leave you eagerly awaiting the final installment. Lauren Roberts has crafted a captivating series that continues to deliver with each book.
