When you’re sold by your mother, it takes extraordinary courage to survive, thrive, and beat the odds… based on a true story.
“You’re Nellie Westrop and don’t you forget it.
We’ll see each other one day, but until we do, take good care of yourself.
Live a good life.
Now go, my love.”
People say you get one life, but I’ve lived three.
I was born Ellen Hardy in 1900, dragged up in Queen Caroline’s Yard, Norwich.
There was nothing royal about our yard, and Mum was no queen.
At six years old Mum sold me. I became Nellie Westrop, roaming the country in a showman’s wagon, learning the art of the fair.
And I’ve been the infamous Queenie of Norwich, moving up in the world by any means, legal or not.
I’ve been heart broken, abandoned, bought and sold, but I’ve never, ever given up.
After all, it’s not where you start that’s important, but where you end up.
Based on a true story, Queenie of Norwich is the compelling tale of one remarkable girl’s journey to womanhood.
Spanning the first half of the 20th century, Queenie’s story is one of heartbreak and triumph, love and loss and the power of family. It is a story of redemption, and how, with grit and determination, anything is possible.

If you buy this book be prepared that you won’t be able to put it down. It has all the qualities of being tragic, sad, happy, relief, and everything in-between. For a true story, it really draws you in and makes you feel as if you’re part of the story.

From the first page to the last it was a great read. If you enjoy a book that keeps your interested in every word, this is the book for you. The only sad thing is that the story reads so fast that before you know it you have reached the end. Pick this book up it is not very often that you don’t such a good book.

This took me way back to how life must have been when people really did have nothing.
Great writing & loved how the author write in hiw she actually spoke.
Endearing – heartbreaking at times but at other times made me laugh out loud.
A fabulous read that won’t disappoint.

Reading on as Queenie‘s life enfolded, I was pulled into a time and world, that I didn’t know anything about. The characters all became so dear to me, I still miss them a couple of days after I’ve finished the book. What an extraordinary life Queenie led and a truly remarkable talent to transfer a life onto these pages. I’ve felt aaall the emotions and this book, this life, will stay with me for sure. Thank you!

Ellen/Nellie/Queenie lived 3 (and maybe more) lives in one long life, though “Quiee.
nce of Norwich” only deals with the first third of it.
Intelligent, haed-working, devastated by her inability to bear children, Queenie comes vividly to life as do other characters around her, as does her vernacula!
An excellent boring-free read.

What a wonderful, yet heart tugging, book. From the first page to the last I found myself fully invested in Queenie’s story….rooting her on, crying over the hurdles that she faces time and time again, always turning the page looking for how continues to give to others and preservers.
Ann D’Agostino –
This is the story of a girl who was born in the slums and was shown very little love. Her mother gives her away to a woman who offers her love and a much better life than she had before. The child, Ellen, grows up feisty and able to fend for herself. She ends up having a pretty nice life with all the amenities she had dreamt of while living in poverty. She has people she loves and who return that love. It is a story of triumph over adversity. Ellen, later known as Queenie, is a strong female character but the rest of the characters pale in comparison. The story loses direction and then has a very abrupt, lackluster ending. Seems like the author just ran out of ideas or lost interest in her own story.
