Very charming little book. Great for kids or grownups. I bought it for my 4 year old grandson and ended up really loving it myself! Hope the author will write more

“Phoebe the Cat” is an imaginative children’s book that offers something for readers of all ages. The story centers around an envious cat who wonders what life would be like as a dog, leading to a whimsical dream filled with vibrant and unexpected scenes. From birds enjoying spaghetti dinners to dogs chasing squirrels on stage, the narrative is anything but predictable, keeping readers entertained.

The colorful illustrations capture the fantastical nature of the story, making it a visual treat. The book’s blend of humor and creativity makes it an enjoyable read. I found it to be a charming tale that explores themes of curiosity and identity in a fun way. It’s a great addition to my bookshelf.

Only a New Yorker could add color to these pages in words and pictures. It is an untraditional story that will catch the imagination of its readers. Children will delight over the expressions of the book’s characters. I can’t wait to show it to my inquisitive three year old grandson who delights in campy, creative books. Thank you!

After reading an interesting, deeply moving article about Betty Gordon’s life and experiences in New York City, I was compelled to purchase two copies of the book the article referenced, one for my sister, a true cat lover, and one for myself, to read. It is charming and disarmingly delightful, tale with enchanting, energetic illustrations by Ian Spence. This slim story (barely 56 pages) is terrific for little kids, lovers of The City, cat fanciers, and even dog owners–something you will understand once you read it! A little daffy, a trifle eccentric, and a lovely way to spend a morning over coffee, Phoebe and Her Curious Dog Dream is well worth getting. The NY Times story of how Betty Gordon wrote the story, thereby getting Ian Spence involved is in itself memorable and well worth looking up.

What an article, what a woman, what a guy, what illustration, what a book. I really only have one request. Please use this book as a template. This book has twenty other books in it and I’d but them all and I’m 55.

I think one book should just be about why the cat thinks it would be preferable to be a dog. Another book could be about what it’s like to be a cat in the city. I live in a city and have city cats, and know there’s a lot to work with there.

Another book should be the time the cat ends up at the Opera or shopping in the city and on and on and o. These two have one of the most impossibly chic, sophisticated and thoroughly enjoyable series ever written. Class act from start to finish. Pure genius!.

I liked the basic theme and most of the illustrations. Very wild! Bought this because of the author and her artist friend. Great collaboration!

Love the story and the wild illustrations. The backstory on the author and the illustrator is really inspiring, too!

I love the illustrations and the story is sweet and mysterious, which I love. What could the hidden clues be?
