Miha’s amazing analytical abilities and in-depth experience create a book that is absolutely packed with knowledge. This manual is a must-read! – Justin Flores, Olympic Judo Coach, D1 Wrestler & Star MMA Coach
It takes most people roughly a decade to get to the coveted jiu jitsu black belt. Far too many quit along the way for various reasons. The purpose of this book is to ensure confusion or lack of understanding are not one of those reasons. Double black belt Miha Perhavec lays out the key positions and techniques of modern submission grappling in a highly organized fashion. This manual also features hundreds of curated pictures to help grapplers have more fun and success in training and perhaps even competition.
The chapters of Modern Submission Grappling follow the same progression as a jiu-jitsu match, starting on the feet and ending with submissions. The selected techniques, accompanied by plenty of reference pictures, are carefully curated to include only the essentials.

i think the writing is great with some oddball humour thrown in there.
but i’m gonna be honest, i find the pictures rather small and not clear enough, especially when compared to the Victory Belt books from back in the day. The quality of the paper is also lacking, it’s more matte than glossy, feeling rather… cheap.
Still, solid info. wished the actual physical quality of the book was better.

This instructional manual is exceptionally comprehensive, breaking down techniques into clear, digestible steps that are easy to understand. It flows naturally and reads more smoothly than many other instructional books I’ve encountered. The engaging cadence makes it easy to stay absorbed. Having trained extensively with the author, Miha, I wasn’t surprised by the depth of knowledge presented here—he’s a formidable presence on the mats. However, I’ve also trained with many skilled practitioners who, despite their prowess in jiu jitsu, struggle to break down techniques as effectively as Miha does in this manual. As a black belt in Jiu Jitsu, I believe this book offers tremendous value, whether you’re just beginning your journey or have many years of experience. The insights within these pages are invaluable!

This manual covers a wide range of moves and terminology which is perfect for beginners but I would even recommend this manual to non-beginners as well. The pictures paired with the descriptions of different techniques make this manual a helpful tool in learning or reinforcing your no-gi game. I will be stealing all of Miha’s moves 🙂

This book is a start to finish complete guide of what to do in all positions in a submission grappling match. It can really help beginners and intermediate students learn new aspects of the game, and is a great refresher and tool to fill in the gaps for advanced practitioners. If you train in jiu jitsu / submission grappling, this manual is a must-have.

Miha’s No-Gi Manual is an amazing resource for students of any skill level. The concepts are explained in a very clear and concise manner, and the picture sequences are extremely helpful as well. As someone who is new to jiu jitsu, this is not the first guide book I have bought, but it is definitely the best. As an added bonus, if you know Miha irl you will read the entire book in his cool accent!

Honestly, I was surprised at how well-rounded and simple the jiu-jitsu manual was to follow/ this comes from a guy that sucks at jiu-jitsu and someone who hasn’t read a book since graduating college. Also, it’s a great review guide when you can’t remember what you learned yesterday

This is a great book that covers all the important elements of your no-gi game, from offense to defense, and how to counter each type when you find yourself in it. For something as physical as jiujitsu, good pictures with progressions are a MUST if you’re going to understand what to do, and this book delivers on that very well! Pictures are plentiful, with about 3 or so provided for each move to help you see the progressions, and to top it off, they’re also accompanied by free online videos that let you see the moves in action. When you combine the two, what you end up is a really polished product that helps you learn faster than any other book I’ve come across.
I have also had the honor of being able to train under Miha at his jiujitsu facility, and he’s not only a kind, knowledgeable, and gracious guy, but his skills are amazing, and I’ve never been so destroyed when rolling with someone! Do yourself a favor and get this book – it’ll elevate your game!

I’ve been on and off with BJJ for years now but I’ve decided that I’m going to become a lifetime practitioner of the gentle art. This book is has philosophy, techniques, concepts and good quality diagrams of each of the submissions, guards etc. This book is good quality and will assist me to black belt and beyond.
