There are several style guides including Chicago, but the MLA is still widely accepted for journal publication, not to mention undergraduate studies. The rules are tricky, but once learned make a lot of sense.

This new version is more than twice as long as MLA 8. For that kind of added length, you’re expect to find an apology letter for creating “containers,” but don’t hold your breath. They are standing by the idea of containers which is still no less confusing (and unnecessary) to new users than it was in MLA 8.
Probably the best thing found in 9 is the “Appendix 2: Works-Cited-List Entries by Publication Format.” Here you’ll find sample citations for various sources. This one stop shop will be very useful to new users.
Another positive is the chapter on “Principles of Inclusive Language.” Kudos to MLA for including it, though I have not read it and cannot attest to its value.
If you’re an academic who uses MLA often, you probably want to know what actually changed. Did they ditch the p. vs. pp. thing? The short answer is I don’t know, but it seems that the vast majority of this version is dedicated not to re-reinventing the wheel but to making the changed made in MLA 8 clearer. I could be wrong, but I don’t think so.

Man sollte immer die neueste Auflage haben.
Die Erklärungen sind sehr präzise und das Buch überraschenderweise deutlich länger als vorherige Version.
Insbesondere wurde auch ein Kapitel zu „Prinzipien der inklusiven Sprache“ eingeführt, was ich besonders spannend und wichtig finde.
