Bought this book for ideas, it’s full of ideas but I’ve found there’s no substitute for practice. Great book though.

I discovered this book when subbing for a middle school art teacher. Holmes wrote it specifically for teachers and students, but is easily used in a non-school environment. At that time, I was personally exploring drawing for relaxation at home. I paged through the book and saw that it would work well for me at home. And it sure did! My drawing skills improved incredibly! It helped me as a teacher too because I used the lessons when I had to teach every subject to my 6th graders, including art! I went on to buy a few more books in this series. I’m retired now, but I use them with my grandchildren.

As an adult who used to love art as a kid, I can’t express enough how thankful I am for How to Draw Cool Stuff: A Drawing Guide for Teachers and Students. This book has reignited my passion for drawing and has been an absolute blast to work through.

The step-by-step guides make it easy for anyone, regardless of skill level, to follow along and create some truly amazing pieces. The book covers everything from basic shapes and shading techniques to more complex designs and patterns, and the results are nothing short of impressive.

But what I love most about How to Draw Cool Stuff is how it encourages creativity and experimentation. Each section provides plenty of opportunities to personalize and add your own unique flair to each drawing. It’s a fantastic way to unwind and tap into your inner artist.

Overall, I highly recommend How to Draw Cool Stuff for anyone looking to get back into drawing or for those who want to develop their skills further. It’s been an absolute joy to work through, and I can’t wait to see where my newfound creativity takes me next!

Funnily enough, a BOOK was my daughter’s favorite Christmas present. She’s 8 but is an aspiring artist. Already shading and drawing with a lot of depth and texture. Although this book is probably more geared toward adults, she was really excited to receive it. She’s already half way through the drawing instruction and has produced some mind-blowing art for an 8 year old! This book is put together well and seems to be easy to follow 🙂

I’ve been doing art and sculpture for decades. Since i did not have the benefit of an arts education, i always think i am missing something.
This book is a fun excercise and education tool.

  11. Historical Evidence

    I love drawing

ducks, climbing tigers, anatomy, technical stuff … present your kids this book, paper and pencil and they will enjoy themselves for hours

I didn’t know what to expect, but once I got it and started flipping through the pages I was impressed.
This is very much like an art course.
Last time I took art lessons was in grade, 8 so 17 years ago.
Not only does this book show you how to draw, it gives you the reasons why you’re doing the current lesson.

Sometimes being an adult you’re both Teacher and student, so I feel this was perfect for me.
only reason to buy again is a hardcover for the shelf. Very happy!
