I am a beginning clarinet player. Having been in the band in high school (brass player), I know how to read music, so what I am really after are lesson books that teach the particular’s of playing the clarinet. This series of instruction, method books are excellent. Easy to follow, always shows fingering illustrations when introducing new notes, and intermixed with exercises and well known tunes to keep learning interesting. Definitely a thumbs up for Essential Elements!

I ordered this book to include online resources but received a copy that had a cd included instead. (So check exactly which copy they are selling). Apart from that I would definitely recommend this book and would also recommend book 1 which is excellent. (If you have online resources included in book 1 you can carry this across to book 2 as explained on their internet site).

This is a very gook book for clarinet beginner. Play-along tracks is so important for me. I can’t learn clarinet without them. I started learn clarinet from Essential Elements for Band – Book 1. That was a very easy start. I love these books (Book 1 and Book 2).

Purchased Essential Elements for Band, Books 1 & 2, and Essential Techniques for Band, Book 3 by Hal Leonard along with a first Clarinet for my 11 year old granddaughter. Also purchased a second set for myself since i haven’t played my Clarinet since 1957 in HS, and i want to see what she’s learning. Surprised me, when her Father, (my son), was the first to use the books to assemble her Clarinet and played some basic notes without having any prior musical instrument experience. For me, at 73, it’s a good refresher and I certainly need all the basics before I can progress to Hal Leonard’s Clarinet Books “Songs of the 40’s Songs of the 50″s, & Songs of the 60’s”.
