To begin, the overall presentation of the book, the black background and red text amplifies the tone of the book, the massive size of the book, towering over all of my other books, is an exact representation of Guts’ sword. The story is amazing, and Mr. Miura is a God with the pen. Some of the panels are so amazingly drawn, I cannot fathom this was drawn by someone. The only thing I do not like about the oversized books is that sometimes when a panel takes up both pages, it’s kinda hard to see what’s going on in the panel due to the drawing being spread across two massive pages. But that alone is not worth rating this masterpiece down a star. If you’re on the fence about getting this, just do it. Berserk is an amazing story, and if you think it’s just about some angry dude with a huge sword trying to get revenge, ready the next few volumes and see the character development and the hardships our protagonist goes through to get him to being the revenge hungry monster he is. You will not regret it, I promise

As of this review I just finished volume 4 of the Deluxe edition. I cannot tell you how this Adventure checks every box as far as my taste and preference regarding entertainment. Mature, Horror, Action, Suspense, VERY disturbing situations, Sadness and Triumph.
I was hesitant to begin the story because I’ve never read a Manga before. I’ll even admit that when I found out I had to read it backwards and right to left I made fun of it…. Oh boy have I come a ways..
I had way more fun when I slowed down and really looked at the art and encapsulated it in my mind.
I never read the original paperbacks, but I dont think you need to with how amazing the Deluxe editions are. you really cant beat it.
Have a moment with your wife and just explain “Honey I’m about to drop hundreds of dollars on these books”

I’d only heard about Berserk from my adult son, and he said it was quite a messed-up story. It definitely has its moments and is not for the faint of heart, though I suppose that level is very subjective. It’s definitely no My Hero Academia or anything…it’s dark, it’s violent, but it’s compelling and I can’t help but really like the main protagonist. His companion is definitely his opposite, but that part of the story is compelling, too. If you’re into darker manga, you’ll likely love this. The quality of the book itself is great; I love the hardback feel of this as opposed to the usual manga softcovers. Plus it looks great on a shelf!
