Detailed description:

“Exquisitely written with compelling characters and romance . . . I was swept away by the enchanting and magical world Rebecca Ross crafted, and loved every moment of it.” — Sue Lynn Tan, bestselling author of Daughter of the Moon Goddess

Enter the isle of Cadence in this novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Divine Rivals—a Scottish-inspired fantasy brimming with enemies-to-lovers romance, magic and spirits, and a captivating mystery

It starts with a letter and an ominous journey across dark waters. Ten years after being sent away to the mainland to become a bard, Jack Tamerlaine is summoned home to Cadence. Girls are going missing from the island, and Adaira, his childhood nemesis and the future leader of the clan, believes Jack is the only one who can find them.

The elemental spirits that dwell in every breath of air, splash of water, blade of grass, and flicker of fire find mirth in the lives of the humans, and a bard’s music is the only way to summon them and ask that the girls be returned. Yet as Jack and Adaira get closer to solving the mystery, it becomes apparent that an older, darker secret about Cadence lurks beneath the surface, and no harp song may be strong enough to stop it.

With unforgettable characters, a thrilling plot, and a lush folklore-infused world, A River Enchanted is a stirring story of duty, love, and creating harmony between opposing forces. This first book in the Elements of Cadence duology marks Rebecca Ross’s brilliant entry on the adult fantasy stage.

Rebecca Ross really knows how to weave a magical story together.

I also fall in love with her MMCs. I love that Jack is a bard. His character is lovely and I fell in love with him right away

This story is beautiful. Definitely felt like a lot of world building. I can’t wait to read the next book

    Great packaging

This was a lyrical and gorgeous read. I truly loved the characters and the world building. This has all the things I love. Mythology, magic, stunning characters, and beautiful countryside. It was truly a great escape.

I made an unfortunate error while reading it that soured the experience. It’s entirely my fault, and I’m just putting it here as a reminder to myself.

I HATE sad books. Despise them. I was thoroughly enjoying this one when I started to get nervous about the ending. I thought this was a stand-alone novel. I skipped to the back and only read a few paragraphs. From those few things, I guessed that Adaira was actually a child of the folk and had to be sacrificed back to them to maintain peace, leaving poor Jack distraught. 😵‍💫🙄 I read the back 1/3 of the book with this in mind and tried to temper my feelings for Adaira. I was bracing myself for devastation. Imagine my surprise when I read the actual ending (Adaira is NOT a child of the folk, nor did she die). THEN I discovered this is actually a part of a duology 🤦‍♀️.

I can’t wait to read the second book. I rarely finish any series, but this one has me intrigued. Excellent read.

Having read Rebecca Ross’s The Queen’s Rising and Letters of Enchantment duologies, I knew I had to check out more of her writing, and decided to give the Elements of Cadence duology a read… and it did not disappoint! With a mix of magic, mystery and an almost dreamlike setting, I was absolutely hooked from the first page.

Je recommande ! L’histoire est vraiment originale, portée par des personnages attachants. On se laisse surprendre par les événements, et on admire la qualité d’écriture de l’autrice. Je lirai plus de livres de Rebecca Ross.

I’ve enjoyed reading this book. It has a interesting story, memorable characters, and the tales of mythology or lore were so beautifully told. The descriptions of the lands of Cadence east and west, are vivid. The heart of this story will stay with me. Thank you Rebecca Ross for this lovely tale. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series and your other books.

I absolutely loved A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross. I woke up a few nights dreaming about what would happen next between Jack and Adaira. If they’d find the missing girls and what the folk of Cadence would do next.
This would be perfect for adult fantasy fans who love Scottish Myth and Fae.
I am a new Rebecca Ross fan and can’t wait to read the next one. The audio book is also wonderful. I switched between the audio and the e-book.

I love Rebecca Ross. In a world filled with so many who can write and be read she stands out with her way of weaving prose into a beautiful story.

If you’ve read Night Circus and loved it, Rebecca is for you. Truly any of her books.

I did enjoy Divine Rivals more than A River Enchanted, so if you’re trying to decide, I do suggest starting there. However, A River Enchanted is still a beautiful story of love and relationships.

Rebecca builds wonderful character development and beautiful descriptions. She writes solid dialogue. And it combines together into a story you can get lost in. She doesn’t make any of overly flowery or overly descriptive either which is the downfall of so many. That way you can read her stories and process them without spending months doing so until you forget where it all started. (Dont worry I like those books too, they all have their place). Rebecca is a strong writer, she finishes her plots and leaves little to nothing as a “loose end” meaning she leaves enough up to you to interpret but doesn’t start a storyline she doesn’t intend to finish. Which, to me, is important in the world of storytelling.

The one downfall is that Ross’s stories can be slow to build and the romance (just the romance, there is literally no spice) can be flat or awkward? (I can’t decide on the adjective) Its not a bad thing necessarily but both duologies of hers I’ve read had a similar issue with the romance dept. I don’t mind no spice, it’s more just the way the falling in love is written. Also both of her stories carry the same trope and story line, again, not a critical hit, but something to be aware of.

While it didn’t become my new favorite book and I didn’t leave about it to my book friends, if you’re considering it, it’s a beautiful story and I’d say dive right in.

Captivating story of divide, magic, belonging, and the complexity of discovering oneself. Heartbending in warmth and sorrow, this book sucked me in from the first sentence.

  11. Wolfpackwildcats

A slow burn of a book but beautifully written. That ending though…I don’t regret reading it but I wouldn’t willingly read it again.

  12. Blue Banisters

  13. C J Elliott

Well crafted plot, characters, & emotions.
    The story hangs together well.
Looking forward fervently to the next book in the series.
