Detailed description:

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book two in her Flesh and Fire series…

The only one who can save Sera now is the one she spent her life planning to kill.

The truth about Sera’s plan is out, shattering the fragile trust forged between her and Nyktos. Surrounded by those distrustful of her, all Sera has is her duty. She will do anything to end Kolis, the false King of Gods, and his tyrannical rule of Iliseeum, thus stopping the threat he poses to the mortal realm.

Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them. Sera cannot afford to fall for the tortured Primal, not when a life no longer bound to a destiny she never wanted is more attainable than ever. But memories of their shared pleasure and unrivaled desire are a siren’s call impossible to resist.

And as Sera begins to realize that she wants to be more than a Consort in name only, the danger surrounding them intensifies. The attacks on the Shadowlands are increasing, and when Kolis summons them to Court, a whole new risk becomes apparent. The Primal power of Life is growing inside her, pushing her closer to the end of her Culling. And without Nyktos’s love—an emotion he’s incapable of feeling—she won’t survive her Ascension. That is if she even makes it to her Ascension and Kolis doesn’t get to her first. Because time is running out. For both her and the realms.

This is by far Jennifer’s best work! I don’t know how she does it, but every book of hers is better than the prior one. “A light in the flame” is magnificent and I was not prepared for this. The plot twists, the prophecy twists, this entire book felt like a twist within a twist. We have action in every chapter [yes, all kinds of actions :))], passion on every page, character development, world development, and SUPERNATURAL DEVELOPMENT!!! Niktos just went all Primal of Death. What you’ve seen in ASITE is nothing compared with how much power he unleashed in ALITF.

The sins of the past, the bearer of the consequences, the sacrifice for the ones you care about, the ones you love, the desperation they feel for losing the one they love [past and present]. This book blew my mind.

The relationship between Niktos and the other Gods, the Draken, and the mortals, the trust and loyalty, the friendship, all these are beautifully written, in a manner that very few authors let the readers experience. You can actually feel this book, everything that Sara feels and, even if we don’t have any chapter in Niktos POV, you can still feel how he feels through Sara. With the emotions and the passion behind every action, every word, and every fear, this whole book is simply magnificent. I literally devoured this book.

We have more of Nektas, Jadis and Reaver. You see understanding and the power of knowledge. How the past can change a person and the mind, and how you can see from more perspectives than your own. The power of trust and free will to choose who you’re guarding, and with whom your loyalty and friendship lie. And also giving a second chance, and be for that person, even if the others want her dead. I think Nektas is a very important pillar for Sara [if I can say so], not only in front of the others but also just for her, supporting her, encouraging her, and just being there for HER, not for what she represents.

With ALITF, you can’t say that only the ending was powerful. NO. THE WHOLE BOOK WAS POWERFUL! I’m not going to give any spoilers, JUST KNOW THAT THIS IS SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY! You laugh, you cry, and you want to stab someone :))), you want to hug the characters if they were in front of you, and you literally feel pain for the characters and not just the main ones, oh no, you feel everything for every character.

    MASTERPIECE!!!!

Ash ist einer meiner Lieblingsfantasycharaktere, ich kann nur jedem, der Fantasie mit erotischem Beigeschmack mag, die A Light in the Flame-Reihe ans Herz legen.

A Light in the Flame is the second book of the Flesh and Fire series, and I got an ARC in exchange for an honest review. It was my first Jennifer L. Armentrout ARC, since I became part of the team, and it was something that I dreamed of for years now. I had high expectations for this book, and it didn’t disappoint. This was one of my favorite JLA books. I still have no words to describe how much I loved it and how much it drove me crazy! It’s a rollercoaster of emotions. I was addicted and spent three days doing nothing but reading. It’s a big book, a lot happens, and new information is revealed: we get some answers, and we get more questions.
It’s a book that has everything: great characters – with great development – good action scenes, and important scenes where so much happens and changes, and I had to stop to process everything I had just read. The first half of the book is a little slower than the second, but both have their importance for the story. I guessed part of the end, but it still left me screaming at my kindle, with the way things happened. I have so may theories and thoughts and this book is just out and I cannot wait for the next one already.
About the characters. Sera is becoming one of my favorite characters ever. I loved her so much in this book! She is so strong and snarky and has this powerful personality that makes her strong and vulnerable at the same time. I love the fact that even if she is strong she has scars that she is working on healing and that makes her character more complex and interesting. Also, her sarcasm and snarkiness are hilarious. Nyktos was even better in this book, in my opinion. We got to see more sides of him, and he is so dreamy! I really liked his character, as a man, the love interest, and as a primal god. He is complicated but he is a good guy and would do everything for the ones he cares about. Usually, I am more of an anti-hero kind of girl and prefer the bad boys, but Jen got me with Nyktos, I really swooned for him during the whole book. With how much I loved these two, it’s no surprise that I loved the romance aspect of the book. The tension and angst were off the charts, but also the sweet moments, and confections, and the way they are there for the other, even when they don’t realize they needed each other.
The side characters as it’s Jen style are also amazing, and great complements to the story. The Draken are my favorite though. Nektas with his wisdom and humor – he has this way of always knowing everything and uses that to annoy Sera and it’s hilarious – and the babies Jadis and Reaver, they are the sweetest thing and I want a baby Draken. In this book we also have a better approach to the real enemies, we get to know more about what is really at stake here, and the game levels up. We also have new characters, some good, some bad, but all are important pieces on the chess board. But there are three specific characters that I really want to see painfully dead.
With everything we discovered in this book and the prophecy, the connections with the From blood and Ash series are growing and I’m so curious to find out what is Jen’s master plan with all of this. The book was amazing, five stars because I cannot give more, because if I could give a hundred I would. I laughed like a maniac and cried like a baby. Jen plays with our emotions, and I loved every single page. It gave me one of the biggest book hangovers of my life and reinforced JLA as my favorite author ever.
