Detailed description:
From the author and illustrator of Our Class is a Family, this heartwarming picture book helps teachers in welcoming their new group of students on the first day of school. Through a letter written from the teacher’s point of view, students are given the message that their new teacher is someone they will get to form a special bond with. Their teacher is not only there to help them academically, but also to cheer them on, and to provide a caring, safe environment for them to learn and grow.
During back to school time, teachers are wanting to set the tone for the new year. In addition to establishing rules and procedures, they are ready to get to know their kids and start building positive relationships. This is a read aloud that helps with laying that foundation, and it serves as a great starting point for get-to-know-you activities and class community building.
There is a blank space on the last page for teachers to sign their own name, so that students know that the letter in the book is coming straight from them. With its sincere message and inclusive illustrations, A Letter From Your Teacher is a valuable addition to any elementary school teacher’s classroom library.

Brilliant book, with such a lovely message. I am so happy to have come across this book via the teaching community on Instagram. I’m looking forward to sharing it with my class in the Autumn, and establishing a caring classroom community. Gorgeous illustrations too!

I love the illustrations. In school is not all about school work, some values like respect and kindness are very important and we also learn them at home, church, community and school.

A Very good book. It encourages the child and allows the child to hear what could and should be the words and feelings of their teacher.

I am a big fan of this Author. Her books are relatable and easy to use with any grade level. I used her original book “Our class is a family”, to open up the school year this year. It brought a sense of unity and a scope of our common goal into my virtual space. I can’t wait to use this book next year, as my first week introduction.
Also, I had the pleasure of having Mrs. Olsen visit with my class. Her affection with the students was wonderful. She got them moving and engaged. It was the best virtual experience I could have given my class in this crazy school year. If you have the books, schedule a visit you will not regret it. It is worth every penny.
I also use these book at home. My daughter is 4 and can read My class is a family to me word for word. I was also able to schedule an author visit for her class, because they study authors, a new one each month. Her teacher was so grateful , and thought it was the best experience she could have given the children in Pre-k to foster their love for writing.
So from pre-k to third grade the book is relatable and relevant for all!!!

So incredibly happy I purchased this book! This book brings to life the ways teachers want to get to know their students, build relationships, help them grow and teach them kindness. There’s also a page incorporated a growth mindset.
It also has beautiful illustrations. I was happy to see that there were different skin tones, hair colors/textures, a student with glasses, and a girl wearing a Hijab represented. One thing I do wish would be considered if there are future books are the ways individuals with disabilities could be represented. This book does have a student in a wheel chair. However, I’d love for the illustrator to consider drawing a kid/teacher with a physical deformity, hearing aids, a pediatric walker, a white cane for those with visual impairments, a service animal, or a prosthetic. The more representation the merrier!!
