Love reading Daniel Silva’s novels, especially the Gabriel Alon novels. Have read all of them. This is vintage, less shooting of course as Alon gets older, but very good plot with probably a fair amount based on truth. Good, fast read, very entertaining.

A Death in Cornwall follows the Allon series playbook. As usual, Silva’s somewhat excessive description sometimes stretched my patience, but the story itself is a solid, well thought out and informative page turner that seems capable of having been drawn from the current news of the day. This book is an excellent primer on international money laundering, the art world and dirty politics. It is also unique in that none of the usual “office” characters make appearances (and i did not miss them).
One of Silva’s best. Highly recommend.

I enjoy all of the Gabriel Allon series and their detail on the location of events. I have found the cafes, restaurants, streets, and hotels actually exist. I find it difficult to imagine the author has personally visited each of them.
The story is different, but the characters are the same as the last several publications. I would suggest Silva find some new ones as his old ones are becoming typecast as is the old goat on the island or Corsica. A fun, but complex read.

Silva’s graceful prose and believable characters bring the story to life. Although the former Israeli spy has settled into retirement as an art restorer, danger follows him. And who needs to travel with the closely detailed settings from Venice, to Monaco to Cornwall? You won’t regret spending your time enjoying Silva’s latest mystery.

I have read them all.
I have gasped as Gabriel and his team saved the world, righted wrongs and manoeuvred through an increasingly dangerous time to live.
HOWEVER this book is the best. My favourite. Gabriel freed from The Office is more relaxed, funny even. The dialogue is so perfect – the politics of the Conservative United Kingdom so accurate – the narrative so fast and enthralling. Yes it helps to have read the previous 23 books but this was a joy :
This book was everything I wanted Daniel to write. Thank you.
It still demonstrated one man’s quest for justice for a dead Art Professor and tours the cesspits of corrupt politicians, ruthless lawyers, financial swindlers, nazi art thefts and the horror of the holocaust. Gabriel, Ingrid, Christopher, Chiara, Irene, Timothy, Sarah, a dangerous goat and a Corsican Don : they all make this a wonderful piece of writing. I know these people and freed from the tension of official Israeli defence needs Gabriel as the supreme art restorer makes my day. I would have liked one more chapter. I would have liked to have seen the Picasso painting returned to its rightful owners.

If you’re looking for a witty and intelligent tale of mystery and adventure with various upscale English and European settings, the world of fine art, and lots of skullduggery, then Daniel Silva’s “A Death in Cornwall” may just be the book for you. It’s a quick read starring master Israeli spy turned Venetian art restorer Gabrielle Alon and many of the characters Silva has created in past novels. If you’ve never read Silva’s work before, this might not be the one to start with since it refers to but does not recount past events. But it is topical, laugh-out-loud funny in places, and includes interesting information about fine art and how it’s used and abused by the super-rich and those who do their bidding. I had a lot of fun with it.

A lot of very complex tech equipment.
Every book I have read, written by Daniel Silva has been excellent. I can’t put them down once I have started to read. Absolute perfection. *****

It’s always a pleasure to read a Gabriel Allen mystery. There’s alway lots of intrigues and very interesting insights into law enforcement over seas. The characters are vivid and interesting. The plots are always interwoven with mystery and humor. Gabriel’s life is always fascinating. It’s hard to put the book down once you have started it. I’d recommend readers start with book one and read the series in order. It’s quite a literary trip.
