I thoroughly enjoyed this book and enjoyed doing the work and testing the suggested strategies. Being a new parent, I was desperately searching for a new way to parent my hyper-active 5 year-old son. I was tired of all the yelling and needed a better was to communicate with him effectively. And the biggest thing this book helped me realize is that, ITS OK. It’s ok if things don’t get done the parents way and taking a different path to achieve the goal is ok as well. Also, to simply calm down in heated moments, which it suggests practicing meditation (I’ve enjoyed this, it really works).
I will say you do have to put in the work and it is a huge unlearning process. Unlearning how I was raised and brought up. And he talks about that in the book ,but I will continue to use these strategies because I feel more calm and the strategies are effective.

I rushed to read this book on my Libby subscription and wish I’d had more time to really delve into the exercises. I am a huge supporter of mindful meditation and I swore Hunter was in my house watching me parent. I was raised on screaming and spanking/hitting so breaking that cycle has been a massive difficulty. I’m in therapy and have often bemoaned I CANNOT figure out my triggers. This book has me noting what’s the most triggering and being able to remove them (sensory related) or work through them. This book helped me identify so many underlying issues that I was taking out unfairly on my toddler. I recommend this book to anyone looking to parent a better human, but be prepared to do the SELF WORK. because we have to become better to better our babies 🖤
