  1. Todd

Great collection of stories. I wish the case was cardboard and not just a thick paper.

  2. ARCE CHAVEZ

This series is a good balance of adventure and history for young readers. My 9 year old son has been enthusiastically reading every book in the series and this is the first time I’ve truly seen him excited about reading. The individual volumes are slim and he feels a real sense of accomplishment for finishing each one. After he read 6 during the flights of a recent trip, it was clear I’d need to get the complete series for him.

  3. La Madre

Just cannot say how happy I am seeing my kid devouring one per night ever since the series arrived. (Actually we bought the first set of four and he asked for more so we’ve decided to venture do the whole set and works out perfectly)! Some of the stories are related to current events like the wildfires in Australia that he remembers as well so he could make closer link to the stories and gave him more satisfaction. The only downside would be the box that’s too soft to hold all the books! But that really does not matter that much. The content is excellent!

  4. Jeff C

Our daughter loved these books before she could read. Highly recommend to your young readers – boy or girl alike.

Once she started learning to read, these became her first chapter books. They’ve helped expand her vocabulary and taught her about history and some science in an incredibly fun way. We are almost complete with this set. It is amazing to see how quickly she can read these compared to when we started.

The author is celebrated for a reason. She tells these stories in a way the is incredibly engaging to kids. And she knows how to cover historical topics that need to be handled delicately (like war) in a way that I’ve not seen with other books.

  5. Kate

These books are great. I read them to my son every night. We both enjoy them. He was 6 when I got them and they were easy enough for him to read himself (to me with some help on a word here and there).

  6. Dylan Smith

I’m satisfied with the book set and excited to read them to my child as my mother read them to me!

  7. ARCE CHAVEZ

Compramos estos libros de 2a mano y en verdad están como nuevos, excelente compra a menor precio!

  8. Kavikagunn

Only thing I am disappointed in is the sturdiness of the display box. It is not going to last long. I was wanting something that could stand on it’s own and protect the books for a long time. Book boxes use to be a sturdy cardboard yet now it is thin and flimsy. I can picture it ripping soon.

  9. John Gott

I know several folks about my age who read some of these growing up, but I’m reading these for the first time when reading to my son at bedtime. These are approachable, easy to read aloud to a child, not too stimulating, and the chapters are short enough and the structure predictable enough that it makes a parent’s role easier. The contents are also predictable in the sense that you don’t have to worry too much about content filtering for age appropriateness; no questionable moral messages.

    A couple minor criticisms:

(Acknowledging that these are children’s books…) The contents are generally very simple, sometimes too simple in my opinion, even for the target audience. There’s a good variety of settings, but the arc of each book (and even the longer arcs that carry across books) are like boring side quests to an aimless video game. I’ve observed it’s hard for any of us to get invested in the characters or feel their adventures are much more than an errand. I think part of the problem is the limitations of the format, but also limited stakes, growth, and hurdles.

There’s also errors that can be annoying if you let them. Like the Moon book where the author obviously used her imagination and pre-1950 ideas about being on the moon, rather than doing some homework on it before world building. To be fair, I think these were written in the mid 90s before most of the modern Internet, but still… gravity doesn’t change when you step outside, space suit oxygen systems and airlocks don’t work that way, you wouldn’t build a pressurized dome as the landing pad for a rocket, etc. Similar ideas in other books, like the antics with the octopus and mini-sub in the Reef book. These sorts of things aren’t explained a way by contrivances or magic systems, but are giving children the idea that “this is how it really works”. Truly, these are nitpicks, but depending on how much you care about a given topic, you may feel the need to pause and correct the author’s lack of due diligence.

I got this for my 7 year who is going into 2nd grade. He LOVES these books. He just started reading them the 1st of this month, July. He is already beginning the 8th book and is looking forward to the next book and the next and the next, etc etc. He wants to read every day. When he gets closer to the 28th book, I will definitely buy the next set.
They are very easy and tons of fun to read.

I love the series! I read to my sons and they read them alone. I also read the books to my class during down time. The first books I have found for boys and are mostly decodable!!

  12. Dorae Bowen

This is the second set of grandchildren that will enjoy these wonderful books! So happy Amazon comes through fast. Their parents are reading the books to/with them and they all enjoy!b

  13. Kerris Mort

Our child loves this series. It’s full of adventures and factual information. The stories are cleverly written to allow children to learn about history in a fun and exciting way. Our child loves these books.
