Beware that some states have not adopted the Next Generation Science Standards and so there are state-specific copies of this text floating around, aligned with their standards. For example, we live out in California and I ordered this text for my son; when we received it, it was the Florida edition – the text is the same, however the book shows alignment with Florida State Standards instead of NGSS. Now I have to look up the NGSS for each chapter, to see which standards we’re covering.

we are homeschoolers and I went with this version because I wanted something pretty up to date. This is by all reports one of the best textbooks out there, but the disappointing thing is how hard they’ve made it to access materials that go with the book including lab manuals. I see now that they have gone “digital” with their supplementary materials, and the digital package is both hard to access (publisher will make you jump through hoops to get it), and has incredibly bad reviews. Apparently not high quality and glitchy. Meanwhile, supplemental materials for older editions are ubiquitous, including many free resources created by other homeschoolers and indeed the authors of the book! I don’t know why this is, but the authors’ own website for this book — which has free materials to accompany older editions — still calls the older edition the best one they ever created. hmmm. I mean, they could have neglected their website, but it’s been over 2 years since this edition came out. Shouldn’t they have rectified their website?? in addition to all the free materials, there also a plethora of low-cost materials out there too, such as on teachers pay teachers, that go with the older edition. It’s impossible for me to tell at this stage whether materials designed for the older book will correlate well with this edition as well. Meanwhile, the book refers the reader on nearly every page to some other materials we don’t have access to, which is really stinks for us. I have not 100% made up my mind, but I am thinking that I may wind up just buying the older edition at this point and then maybe keeping this one to compare for updates or something. I do not relish having to do that much work though. I purchased an expensive, up to date textbook from a major publisher in order to NOT have to do a bunch of my own legwork, so it is disappointing for this to turn out to be so difficult for me to work with.

American book which should used to supplement UK GCSE prep. It focusses the student’s mind to ask the question WHY?

Good high school bio book for $5.00. Used this book for several years teaching.
