“This book had me at the edge of my seat! I couldn’t put it down!” –Amazon

Victoria Barnett has it all.

A great career. A handsome and loving husband. A beautiful home in the suburbs and a plan to fill it with children. Life is perfect—or so it seems.

Then she’s in a terrible accident… and everything falls apart.

Now Victoria is unable to walk. She can’t feed or dress herself. She can’t even speak. She is confined to the top floor of her house with twenty-four-hour care.

Sylvia Robinson is hired by Victoria’s husband to help care for her. But it turns out Victoria isn’t as impaired as Sylvia was led to believe. There’s a story Victoria desperately wants to tell… if only she could get out the words.

Then Sylvia discovers Victoria’s diary hidden away in a drawer.

And what’s inside is shocking.

13 reviews for The Wife Upstairs: A twisted psychological thriller that will keep you guessing

  1. Karen J. Daly

Well, this book gets a three star rating from me. The Housemaid books are so much better. This was good but not great. Of course you knew who the bad guy would be as soon as you start reading. The twist at the end was greatness! Keep on writing, Freida!

  2. Kosh Ram

This book was very interesting. Some chapters are narrated by Sylvia in the present and some are narrated by Victoria in the past. Both perspectives are different and compelling. The twists were too clever at the end. 🤗

  3. R

I think i got a used book. There are multiple stains in different pages which is disgusting and the cover is damaged as well.

Another great book by Freida! At the beginning it definitely gives off Housemaid vibes. Husband taking care of ill wife, hires another lady to help take care of her. That whole ordeal. It also gave me Gypsy Rose vibes (if you know her story you will see the comparisons once you start reading this book.) However! The book had a lot of twists and the ending was not what I was expecting. Highly recommend!

  5. Angel Nichole

I did enjoy some of the book, but it was obvious from the get go who “the bad guy” in this book was. This certainly isn’t comparable to the housemaid series where you never know who to trust. Even when there’s a small plot twist near the end, I still knew what the truth was. I like the writing and the story itself. Enjoyed the spooky ambiance of it, but like I said, you know from the get go cause she basically tells you while switching back and forth from the caretaker to the wife’s diary. Now if the plot twist would have been true then the book would have been 5 stars lol

Absolutely riveting…couldn’t put this down. Sometimes I am able to figure out what the final twist might be because I’m expecting one, but I did not see this coming. I loved the characters and the storyline was easy to follow and I really did feel McFadden did an outstanding job of gathering up all the bits and pieces and making it believable. There was only one thing I would have wished (but it’s just my personal observation) and that is that Sylvia had gone with the paramedics when she had the chance. Of course, that would have changed the ending and not sure I would have wanted that either because I did love the ending, absolutely brilliant! Just thought it would have been more plausible if she’d gone in the ambulance. It was a fabulous read, and McFadden nailed it beautifully. 5 stars for sure!!

  7. Louise Barraclough

I’m currently reading through Freidas books after taking a chance on her as a new author last year. I’ve read pretty much all of her books, and they’re all so good but this one is my favourite so far.
She writes in a way that makes you feel you’re watching a film. This was an absolute page turner, drawing you in and so many twists and turns. Very clever writing!

  8. Cherie Monique

Girlfriends, this book here was absolutely amazing. I loved it, this ending was savage and brilliant. Frieda girl, you have done it again, I almost was a little bit scared because I was kinda of like wait who is the killer here and you made me think it was Adam but then it turned on Victoria and then back to Adam I was so head confused. lol but all in all it was a good fast read and entertaining. I really did enjoy it. You did not disappoint. Well done friend, well done! 😀

  9. Karen Armstrong

Another great book by my new favorite author! She keeps the suspense going to where you can’t put the book down!

The Wife Upstairs. Every book I read of Freda McFadden just keeps me hooked. This was the 8th book I have read of hers. Everytime I think she cant surprise me, she does. I like the fact that the chapters are short and not so long, so I am able to read more, and I just keep turning the pages going to the next chapter after the next chapter. I love books that hold my interest and keep me hooked, and all of hers do. I’m glad she has written a lot of books because I plan on buying more. I like paperback books versus using Kindle app etc. When I read her books, I wonder where Freda McFadden gets her ideas. She keeps me turning the pages. Her books are always “wow, I didnt see that coming”.
