Sanzo Wada (1883-1967) was an artist, teacher, costume and kimono designer during a turbulent time in avant-garde Japanese art and cinema. Wada was ahead of his time in developing traditional and Western influenced colour combinations, helping to lay the foundations for contemporary colour research. Based on his original 6-volume work from the 1930s, this book offers 348 color combinations, as attractive and sensuous as the books own design.

Amazing, great guide on color combinations, the best one hands down. A must have for anyone who is into fashion on drawing, it’s just the best book to look into. There are so many color combinations, I look into it any time I struggle to combine colors.

I agree with other reviewers that this little book is great – it has a nice feel to it and a great little size. It took me a while to catch on to the organization (all text is in Japanese), but essentially it organizes 159 different colors into combinations of 2, 3, and 4 – then indicates what page it is on for each combination of that color. The back pages of colors are one sided so (I’m guessing) can be cut off into strips to play around with to make your own combinations – or match elsewhere. That makes this part work book, a nice touch!
Some of the color combinations allowed me to see my wardrobe a little differently, a very good thing! Some of the color combinations I find to be too weird. However, the reason I got this reference book of colors is because of my own painting compositions and I know it will prove to be useful.

This is a wonderful book about Japanese color combination ideas. While the book is from a Japanese perspective, the color combinations work for any nationality. Most seem to be combinations from natural flora and fauna of Japan. Nature is the master when it comes to color combinations. This is a great little reference book you can carry with you when deciding combinations of colors for a variety of interests.

I am a fan of the Japanese sense of color and this little book manages to keep me inspired! Single colors, combination colors as well as 3 and 4 color schemes are highlighted. Lovely!

Even if the book is in Japanese, all the color names are dubbed in English. Very easy to navigate, because it has a list of colors and color coding in the end of the book with page numbers, so you could find any combinations of a desired color
