Detailed description:

Six teens murdered. A suspect behind bars. A desperate father. In a case this shadowy, the truth is easy to hide.

Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore is an expert on killers. She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives—predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning—and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned. If not for one new development…

Defense attorney Robert Kavin is a still-traumatized father whose own son fell prey to the BH Killer. Convinced of Thompson’s innocence, he steps in to represent him. Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client’s name.

As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the investigation, grave questions arise. So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something—and that he might not be the only one with a secret.

Definitely has you guessing till the end! Wish I could give it 5 stars but needed more action, other than that it’s a shocking ending. Will definitely be reading more A.R Torre books.

  2. Mimiorphee

Mrs Torre got me out of my book slump thanks to a story that kept me enthralled from the first page to the last word. I had my suspicions and theories, the but mastermind the author is, succeeded in making me forget them. I let the storyline lead me chapter after chapter, until I reached the brilliant ending. I could read fast enough, I needed to see this through.
This book is highly entertaining, I highly recommend it if you’re in the mood for a fast-paced story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Psychoanalysis is a dense and difficult subject to understand. But when you try demystifying it and weave an intriguing plot around the whole thing, the result is an intensely engaging and absorbing narrative. One of his best books.

  4. Kari

I really liked all the twists in this book and how everything and everyone seemed kind of off. The twist at the end I really didn’t suspect. I also listened the the audiobook while on my daily walked and the narrator did a great job. I will definitely be checking out more from this author.

This has been on my TBR for at least a year and I can’t think why I’ve waited so long to read it. I absolutely loved it. There’s something about A.R. Torre’s writing style that instantly captivated me and I honestly couldn’t put it down. Great character development too!

We get right to the heart of the matter as psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore discovers that one of her patients has killed his wife and then committed suicide. Had she misread the signs, could she have stopped it?
But she barely has time to think about what she could have done differently when she discovers that the Bloody Heart serial killer has finally been caught. To everyone’s surprise, defence lawyer Robert Kevin and father of one of the victims, takes up his defence. And now he wants Gwen to evaluate his client.
But why would he defend the killer of his son?

What an intricate plot, full of surprises and shocking revelations! I loved the way everything came together at the end. It was like navigating through mud until the truth finally hit me like a bucket of clear water! I don’t know if this is the best explanation, but I’m sure you understand what I mean!😆

Well, Torre has gained a new fan and I can’t wait to read more of her books!

The Good Lie is a gripping thriller that explores the dark side of human nature and the twisted secrets that lie behind a series of murders. The story follows Dr. Gwen Moore, a psychiatrist who specializes in treating killers, and Robert Kavin, a defence attorney who lost his son to the Bloody Heart Killer, a serial kidnapper and killer of teenage boys. When Robert takes on the case of Randall Thompson, a high school teacher accused of being the BH Killer, he asks Gwen to help him prove his client’s innocence. But as Gwen delves deeper into the case, she uncovers disturbing truths that challenge her own beliefs and put her in danger.

The book is well-written and fast-paced, with short chapters that keep the reader hooked. The author creates a suspenseful atmosphere and a complex plot that keeps the reader guessing until the end. The characters are well-developed and realistic, with flaws and secrets that make them human. The book also explores themes such as grief, guilt, justice, manipulation, and morality, and how they affect the choices and actions of the characters.

The Good Lie is a captivating and chilling read that will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers and crime fiction.
