NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK: The New York Times, The Washington Post, TIME, Entertainment Weekly, Cosmopolitan, CNN, Lit Hub, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Reader’s Digest, BookRiot, SheReads, PureWow, Publishers Weekly • From the iconic internationally bestselling author of the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy: A forbidden affair erupts volcanically amid a decadent tropical wedding in this outrageous comedy of manners.

“Imagine Crazy Rich Asians mated with Saltburn and you’ve got Lies and Weddings—a heavenly summertime read!”—Plum Sykes, New York Times best-selling author of Bergdorf Blondes

Rufus Leung Gresham, future Earl of Greshambury and son of a former Hong Kong supermodel has a problem: the legendary Gresham Trust has been depleted by decades of profligate spending, and behind all the magazine covers and Instagram stories manors and yachts lies nothing more than a gargantuan mountain of debt. The only solution, put forth by Rufus’s scheming mother, is for Rufus to attend his sister’s wedding at a luxury eco-resort, a veritable who’s-who of sultans, barons, and oligarchs, and seduce a woman with money.

Should he marry Solène de Courcy, a French hotel heiress with honey blond tresses and a royal bloodline? Should he pursue Martha Dung, the tattooed venture capital genius who passes out billions like lollipops? Or should he follow his heart, betray his family, squander his legacy, and finally confess his love to the literal girl next door, the humble daughter of a doctor, Eden Tong? When a volcanic eruption burns through the nuptials and a hot mic exposes a secret tryst, the Gresham family plans—and their reputation—go up in flames.

Can the once-great dukedom rise from the ashes? Or will a secret tragedy, hidden for two decades, reveal a shocking twist?

In a globetrotting tale that takes us from the black sand beaches of Hawaii to the skies of Marrakech, from the glitzy bachelor pads of Los Angeles to the inner sanctums of England’s oldest family estates, Kevin Kwan unfurls a juicy, hilarious, sophisticated and thrillingly plotted story of love, money, murder, sex, and the lies we tell about them all.

While I figured out the twist at the end about halfway through, it didn’t ruin the rest of the book for me. An easy and fun read with lots of tidbits of interesting info.

  2. Re-re-re-view

I read it in two sittings. It was fun enough and I laughed twice, but didn’t pull me in or have me engrossed like the CRA trilogy, which I’ve reread a few times.

It felt a bit phoned in, like he asked ChatGPT to “rewrite Mansfield Park (with a splash of Pride & Prejudice) in the style of Kevin Kwan.” The footnotes felt almost perfunctory, and the whole “I’m Trip Advisor telling you the top ten” felt a little old. Rufus and Eden were meh as heck. I’m so bored with how authors denote the heroine by making her someone who’ll eat a carb (and still have the “boobs and butt of a goddess”). I’m amused that Kwan’s idea of a good rich person is someone who likes to think of sustainable ways to stay rich and wears vintage expensive instead of brand new expensive. I’m very concerned about the possibility that he really thinks that a pregnancy test can accurately test for a pregnancy ensuing within days of coitus (there was no footnote to mark Arabella’s insane assumption as impossible).

Despite the fact that this book has the exact same core plot lines as Crazy Rich Asians (a love story involving the son of a wealthy family who is a down-to-Earth, wonderful person despite having growing up in a gilded world and having a controlling, conniving, social climbing mother; a female love interest who is a low key, independent, hardworking, fantastic person whom the boy’s mother views as far to “common” to ever marry her son), I love the book and burned through it.

Interestingly, the novel appears to take place in the same universe as Crazy Rich Asians… as Kwan has Augie’s love interest Maxxie run off on their honeymoon with a super wealthy Chinese woman named Kitty, who is presumably Kitty Pong. A nice twist that may show up in a future novel or film!

Another great book by Kevin Kwa, romance, twists, humour, and fun characters, I loved it and can really recommend it.

I have read all of Kevin Kwan’s books and enjoy each one. I find his writing makes he feel like I’m attending each event. Hard to put the book down. Another goid book.

  6. Angela Leddy

I read this book in less than one week. I had a hard time putting it down. It is intriguing, emotional, and funny. I fell in love with the characters. I was sad when I finished because I wanted to keep reading more. I highly recommend reading this book!

  7. Just Flor

It’s a pleasure reading this book. If you want to have a good time, just read it. I had a very good time

  8. TreeBee

I adore this book. The writing, the details and descriptions, the settings, the humor, the plot – the perfect escapism! My one teeny, tiny complaint is Eden is too perfect to be true. Thanks, Kevin Kwan, for making reading joyful!

  9. kendra

I love Kevin Kwan books. The characters are so clever and the opulence is just entertaining. I love to imagine all of the fancy places Eden went to. The descriptions were mesmerizing. It was so fun to travel from Hawaii to London, LA and Venice. I’d like to imagine being one of the people who enjoys the secret places only known by the Uber rich. I would have given it a 5 but some of the social lecturing took a bit away. Other than It was such a fun read. I highly recommend if you are looking for an entertaining light read. If you like Kevin Kwans other books you will not be disappointed.

  10. Amazon Customer

The plot is obvious, the characters shallow and ill-defined, but what can I say? I loved reading it, a very beach or cottage friendly read.

  11. Dressage lady

I’d expected a good romp with the rich and Kevin Kwan delivered again. This time the geography is different, but the story delivers including a sort of surprise ending. Just plain fun read!

  12. Kindle Customer

This is a bon bon, maybe an eclair, filled with rich cream, decadent, but so entertaining. I found this engaging, filled with riches I can hardly imagine nor would really want, but funny and so much fun to read about. The author has an excellent eye for detail and just the right subtle snark. The footnotes shouldn’t be missed.

    SPOILERS!!
First of all the description is wrong, as the family’s financial ruin is still unbeknownst to Rufus and his mother at this sisters wedding… second: I really liked all 3 crazy rich books. Kevin Kwan has such a unique and fun style of writing. But this time it was really only names dropping (universities, food and fancy restaurants) and very narrow characters. Rufus and Eden are almost exactly like Nick and Rachel. He super rich but seemingly modest and not caring for money, she beautiful without attitude, smart and turns out to be an adopted super rich heiress. And who is telling her that she’s been adopted? Surprise her mother in law to be. Sounds way too familiar. And Arabella was just Eleno, a crazy bitchy mother who says only the worst things to her children (‘all beautiful women have eating disorders’) but in the end is accepted and even obeyed by her daughters despite her crazyness. Sorry but that’s just a copy of Crazy Rich 1 in another setting with a very foreseeable plot. Really don’t understand the good reviews.
