Detailed description:

#1 New York Times Bestseller

Set during the time of the New York Times bestseller Powerless, fan favorite Adena gets a story all her own in this captivating novella as she attempts to survive on the streets of Loot…and falls for a mysterious—and dangerous—Elite.

Adena and Paedyn have always been inseparable. Fate brought them together when they were young, but friendship ensured they would always protect each other and the home they built in the slums of Loot. But now Paedyn—an Ordinary—has been selected for the Purging Trials, which means almost certain death.

Now alone in Loot, Adena must fend for herself. After attempting to steal, she’s rescued by a mysterious man from the market. Mak’s shadowy past and secretive power set him apart from the other low-level Elites of Loot. And as the pair team up to see their loved ones before the Trials, the quest tests their loyalty, their love, and their lives.

This novella also includes a special extended teaser to Reckless—the exciting sequel to Powerless!

  1. Candagraphics

I bought this for my daughter as she loved Powerless & badgered me to buy this sequel/prequel.
I will not comment on the content as I have not read it, but I wanted to report for others that THIS IS A NOVELLA, not a full size novel! Its half size (5×7″) & 256 pages, not the expected proper addition to the story line expected after the long wait for its release.
Neither of us expected this so I feel it was rather misleading. Somewhere in the tiny print it might have been pointed out, but we did not see it. If it had NOVELLA clearly indicated somewhere it would be more honest advertising IMHO.
My daughter is however happy to be looking forward to reading it.

I did it to myself and, of course, the ending broke me. It was summed up in the most bittersweet, heartbreakingly beautiful way. IYKYK…

Libro arrivato in perfette condizioni. Lettura carina, scorrevole ma nulla di particolare.
Sinceramente non mi ha entusiasmata molto, non mi ha incuriosita e non ha aggiunto nulla in più a questa saga.

I blazed through this novella after finishing ‘Reckless’ because I didn’t want to leave the world Lauren Roberts has created. I knew this book was going to break my heart, but I absolutely loved the sweet story between Adena and Mak.

    Side note:
I’m wondering if Mak will feature in the third book? ‘Powerful’ left me wanting to know more about him and how he moved on from losing both Hera and Adena 💔

  5. Natasha Voloshchuk

This book will have a forever hold on me. Do not skip this novella between the two main books. This gave me a whole different perspective to understand the story and better connect with the character.

  6. Dana

This book was such a beautiful side story to Powerless. It made me laugh and cry. Definitely a must if you have powerless!!

     Powerful by Lauren Roberts
My Book Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (not my favorite, but it’s good!)

SPOILER FREE REVIEW: what an absolute pleasant surprise! I actually REALLY liked this read. I had no idea that I needed Adena’s story and now I’m sitting here wondering how I ever read Powerless without it. Seriously considering restarting the series with a tandem read! Added waaayyy more to Adena’s character that I only now realized we were so sorely lacking. If you’ve read Powerless then the ending to Powerful is pretty much spoiled for you…don’t let that stop you! This book introduces a new character that I could easily see becoming more relevant in book three. Give it a shot!

I’ve seen the Powerless Triology suggested alongside a lot of other books with smut. I believe Lauren has stated that she will be keeping this trilogy YA. But seriously don’t let that stop you. This was such a fun, light read!

COVER/JACKET – I’m a big stickler for keeping design elements consistent over the length of a series…uuggghh. Where to start. Okay, okay. I realize this is a novella so I’ll cut it SOME slack. But…man. I just wish they would have chosen some different elements for this book. To start, I think the cover is beautiful and so perfectly illustrated Aden’a story. It doesn’t quite match the design elements of Powerless/Reckless. But again…novella. So I’ll let it slide. Under the jacket the front hardcover is blank. Why?? I wish they would have continued the simplistic design of the other two and added the needle/thread in silver on the front. I feel like that was a sore miss. On the spine, text treatment seems similar to the other two (won’t get into the Powerless/Reckless differences here…), but why the gap between author and title??? And the book size. AGAIN. Novella. But… 🙁 I could have easily seen this differentiated enough just by being white and the same size as the others. All of this is nitpicky, but this might be the final straw in teaching myself how to book bind just so I can have a copy of the same size as the others for my shelf! 😂

    PRODUCT/SHIPPING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Arrived on time in great condition.

  9. njof

It was a well written book but so sad. I cried to much during the end just because I knew from the firstbook what happened.

“𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺, 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨.”

Oh my this book!! I loved Adena in Powerless – she is pure sunshine and happiness – an innocence that everyone should have on their lives. This book just brings it so much more forward; her outlook, her positivity, and her almost child like nature – Adena is the internal optimist.

And then you meet Makoto! He is the grumpy to her sunshine, the smiles only for her, the perfect cliche of a couple.

“𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘹𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘹𝘩𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴.
𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘦, 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘢𝘮, 𝘪𝘯 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘵, 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘳.
𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘥𝘮𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘦’𝘴 𝘢𝘥𝘮𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳.”

You know going into this book what the ending will be; but you want to know the why – and you still don’t get to know a good enough reason for it happening (although I don’t think any reason would have been good enough for that ending)! But the budding love story that got cut short too quickly, Makoto’s history and everything he goes through, reliving what Pae went through – UGH! It’s just so unfair!

“𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴,” 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘭𝘺, 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘳. “𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺—𝘧𝘢𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘸— 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘶𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮, 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦.”

I am excited for Mak in the next book and how he will help Pae; I mean we don’t know that… but we know he will help her right??

“𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉 𝒊𝒔 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒂𝒔.”

  11. Ms. Davis

Loved the last few pages of this book. Even though I knew what was going to happen it was beautiful to read. However….the first 75% was so meh I almost put this book down so many times. And it’s a novella. So if you love powerless you’ll love this but if you’re meh about powerless this will be meh too so skip it.

  12. Bailie

I loved this story almost more than I loved powerless. This book gave you all the feels and some important background information that I think is going to be useful to know for the next book.

  13. Bookworm 2005

Very short book. Entertaining and gives some insight into the series. Would definitely recommend if you are planning to read the series
